You are describing an athlete who probably has aspirations of going to the Olympics. In my experience, watching over the years, I would say it takes from 9 to 13 years to be a very good and experienced boxer. Most boxers start competing when they are 8 years old so by the time they are 19 to 25 they have a great deal of experience. In order to achive this goal, the athlete must stay dedicated and focused and not allow outside interests to influence him or her.

That's hard to really answer, because there are so many variables such as natural ability (it does exist, it just has to be developed), the trainer and the type of training, hunger (desire) etc. I'd say that you will rarely see someone develope into a really decent boxer until they've been at it for at least two years. Sometimes it takes a lot longer. I boxed Golden Gloves back in the late 60s/early 70s...took awhile before I felt like I really knew what I was doing and this was a gym that had more than a couple of national champs in the stable. I was never in the same league with Earl or Brooks. There is a reason that amatuer boxing has novice and open divisions. If you have the heart and make it through the first two years, well after that is when you can tell if you really have it in you, It does generally take a few years, though, to really develope the skills to be a superior fighter and you really never stop learning.

I know it takes longer than 3 months. When you make your first debut sparring, you forget some important things that you learned in training, such as - keeping your hands up, throw more than one punch, and not get frustrated.

3 minutes. If you can't do it now, no amount of time will help (ok maybe 20 years).
