Unless you are going to marry or stay together with your boy/girlfriend forever, you're going to break up. many people even date without marriage in mind. isn't this all just for fun?

It depends on what your objective is. If your goal is to find a spouse, then dating is for finding him or her. You just have to realize you might have to date a lot of losers / weirdos/ sexual deviants / horny @#!% / clingy people / and the list goes on and on...before you find the right one. Even then this assumes YOU'VE got your act together because you attract what you are.

If you're objective is NOT to get married any time soon then dating is for fun. To meet new people and enjoy their company and to learn new things. It also depends on your value and belief system, religious beliefs (if you have any), and what's important to you.

So the purpose of dating is really entirely up to you.

you answered your own question . Yeah its for fun and for the girls a good way to get spoiled. But dating is also so you can get a feel of a person to see if maybe you might want to keep dating. Personally I have always wondered how or why some people date so long living in seperate places. After a few months and if you are old enough I think it makes more sense to try living together early in the relationship that way if you find you cant get along living together you havent invested to much time into the relationship.

I am dating right now with a duo purpose. If I find someone to stay together and possibly marry, that would be nice. In the meantime, I enjoy spending time with the opposite sex and am learning more about me in the process. While sometimes fun, dating can also expand our horizons in sharing, caring, handling discord and speaking our truth... outside the comfort of our best friends. And sometimes... if we are lucky... we make new best friends.

I believe there are two purposes for dating. The first one and most important is to find a partner that you love and want to be with the rest of life in marriage.
The second is to get to know people and have fun, but that can sometimes has a bad outcome and somebody gets hurt.

sweetie, i wonder about it's purpose ALL the time!!! and, yes, i believe it's pointless w/out some goal to achieve... like, per say, my goal is to actually get married, and my bf's newly admitted goal is to NOT get married... hmm, makes you wonder why we have been wasting our time all these years, doesnt it?....

I have wondered the same thing, and I do not know why we date.

It makes you really wonder because you seem to lose those "feelings" you had when you 1st started dating.
