Join the military only if your willing to pay the cost. You will probably be sent overseas. They aren't playing games right now. My cousin enlisted in the army and they got him over there quick. Same with a guy from my small church. Only enlist if you believe it is what YOU want. Ask questions first but remember...they own you when you enlist.

Some employers will hold your job but I don't know if all do. I doubt it. Check with them to see what ur options are for your job.

get your Bachelors so you can enter the officer program, not enlisted. The military is its own world. there are many new college graduates that join to have the background and it noted on a resume. if you think or hope to be in your profession, you are probably 90% sure not to use it unless there is an actual military occupational specialty for your exact major. of course that is just like the civilian side, not to use your skills. There is a lot of training and now you will definately go to the desert within your first contract. is that what you want? about your job, there are options if you were a reservist called on active duty, but when you join active, you are not guranteed the job once getting out. search the internet for O1 and E2 for military basic pay. look at what your basic pay would be and compare to what you make now. do you like being told how to do and when to do, you will be a mentor and in charge for many junior members. are you responsible enough? there are many great things and many doors open. if you choose, search the internet for military occupational specialties for the branch of service you choose and see what the rate for picking up rank, what duty stations you could go to, is the MOS going to be there in 5 years or is it going to be obsolete? what kind of physical health is required? if you join, you can finish with your degree and not see the tens of thousands of dollars for school because of the Montgomery GI Bill, which by the way is awesome. whatever decision you make, just know that you have to climb your way to the top and good luck. OORAH!! Marines!

Branches:
Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, National Guard (Army NG and Air NG)

Active Duty vs. Reserves (every day vs one or two weekends a month)

Enlisted vs. Officer

Do you want to be down in the mud, shooting people, in combat? Go army or marines. Are you just looking for college money or benefits but want to be as far from the fight as possible? Like the water? Want to give orders or follow them?
There are a zillion different questions and ways to serve. Be more specific about what you want to get out of the military.
You say you have an associates degree, why not just finish up your bachelors degree?
What aspects appeal to you, which dont.
Either way I would reccomend you go reserves or national guard in any branch. You will be able to get your feet wet and find out what the military is all about without being committed to it 24/7. If you decide you really love it you can always go full time, but if you go active and hate it, well you are ****** quite frankly.

If you get a bachelors degree, you can go in as an officer which means more money, better treatment, etc. If you do not finish your education, you will go in as an enlisted person, pay is still alright, but you actually start at the very bottom of the totem pole and work your way up. I think military life is fantastic and really enjoyed my time in, but it's up to what you like. Really, the Air Force is the best branch, better quality of life, more time at home, etc. The best thing to do is get on each branch website and learn more about each one and then go and talk to the respective recruiters. Good Luck!

You need at least a Bachelors Degree to go in as a college op.
After basic training, you go to Officer Training School in Army. My son was out of college( he graduated with honors from good university) with a good job & took a $30,000 paycut
to join Army to serve his country. Now he is a Lieutenant soon to be Captain & is a US Army Ranger, he still loves his country & wants to serve. He will get his graduate degree while serving - they will assign him the university of his choice as home base & he has $42,000 in his education account. When he becomes a Colonel & then he will leave & go back to public sector to work. Rank means a lot to employers. He gets to serve the United States & it will help him in the business world.

wait until you graduate, then go into the air force.
i have been in the air force for years.
during desert storm i was 1,500 miles from the nearest gunshot. just do not go supply or security forces and you will be fine.
I am a maintainer on the F-15 Eagle. lets put it this way if we go to war with North Korea for instance we would be flying out of either Guam, Japan, Or Thailand. the air force is where its at.
one of my best friends was in Vietnam in the air force. He had a blast!!!
its a great lifestyle, and a great place to hone the skills you are going to school for.
don't listen to all of the Iraq stuff.

if you go in with an AA it will give you a promotion, but if you go ahead and get a BA, it will get you in as an officer, much better.
