I am building a commuter boat with two engines for cruising across a large harbour (5 miles wide). To make my first prototype, I was thinking about buying two identical canoes, connecting them with a platform, keep about 1m of space between them, and put two seats onto the platform. Speed would be about 10 knots max, and the water quite still (harbour). The boat's upper body will be a tent tarp over fibreglass rods, like an igloo tent. Will that cruise and maneuver OK, or am I going to be in trouble?
Thanks.

Rather than canoes go with Kayaks which can be sealed. Canoes ride too close to the waterline.

ten knots would be planning speed and who knows what a canoe does when it planes? Try it if you like but don't invest too much
