You really need both.Contact lenses are great, but don't wear them for a longer period of time than your optometrist or ophthalmologist recommends.Contact lenses cut off the supply of oxygen to your eye's and this can cause eye infections if you over wear them.Purchase glasses also and alternate between the two.If you lose or tear a contact then you will have the glasses as backup. If you break your frame or lose a lens, you will have the contact's as backup.Glasses are very stylish right now and there are some really cool styles to choose from.Plastic frame's are the "in"frame to wear.Colored contact's are "in"too.

I've been wearing contacts for almost 15 years and I've had no problems with them. Pros: They're comfortable, you'll have better peripheral vision because contacts cover your eye and glasses don't, won't slip off your face, and if you're careful and keep them clean you won't have eye infections (I've never lost any or had an eye infection). Cons: Contact solution can get expensive, and sometimes they do get dry (don't wear if you're in front of the computer for long periods of time). I also wear glasses (only around the house). Pros: Faster to put on than contacts, won't dry eyes out. Cons: Not always comfortable, constantly slipping, constantly have to turn your head for side viewing (not good for peripheral vision), and don't look good on everybody.

I want Lasik surgery. I'm probably not a candidate, since I have really bad astigmatism in both eyes. But if I could afford them I'd go for it. They're down to about $300 per eye now! That's good, considering they starting at about $3000.

I have had both glasses and contact lenses. The type of lenses I used were gas permeable, hard lenses. Even though they said to take them out every night, once I got used to them (about a week), I used to leave them in to sleep and everything. And then I'd take them out once a week to give them a good soaking in calcium enzyme cleaner.

Pros of glasses--the best thing has to be that they help protect the eye from airborne grit. You can get ones that darken in sunlight.
Cons of glasses--the new thinnest lenses are just as expensive as, or even more expensive than contacts.

Pros of contacts--the ease of use. And they really are easy to wear once you get used to them. The clarity of vision. I could see individual leaves on trees over 500 feet away! You do have to get used to the fact that you FEEL like you're taller (and farther away from the ground). I kept the one prescription of contacts for 8 years. (You can't do that with glasses and expect to see.) I could peel all the onions I wanted. They NEVER bothered me while I had contacts. And my eyes didn't tear during the winter like they do with glasses.
Cons of contacts--airborne grit. I almost had an accident on our superhighway because a particle of grit blew into my one eye. Both were tearing so badly (the other from sympathy, I think) that I literally could not SEE. I clamped my gritty eye closed and FORCED my non-gritty eye to open (it took a lot, but terror helped) enough that the tears ran down my cheek and I was able to see enough to get off at the next exit. (You just don't know how cool you'll be under panic situations until you experience it for youself!)

So, like I said...Lasik if you can afford it. Pros--they are your own eyes. No lenses. No further correction needed. Cons--you'll have to buy sunglasses without a prescription.

With contact lenses you can see everything clearly around you, not just what you see through a lens of a glasses. They're a pain in the butt at first, but once you learn to take put them in and out, I like them better than glasses. You have to replace them more often and deal with cleaning them every night/morning. They're more expensive cause of having to replace them. You can drop and lose them, they can rip. If you don't clean them properly or wash your hands you can get eye infections/diseases. Some people have allergic reactions to some solutions.

Glasses can break, cheaper, you can only see clearly what you look at through the lens. They can be annoying when running or other sports/activities, especially if they don't fit right and slide down your nose. If you try to lay on your side on a couch to watch tv, they press into the side of your face, or at least they did to me.

Lots of things good and bad about both.
Some people look better with or without glasses.

I use both, and I like having both to choose from. I wear glasses at work because I work long shifts and contacts dry out, and when I'm feeling tired or sick. I wear my contacts when going out, and on rainy days or when going swimming. This is kind of a girl thing, but it can be like a fashion option sometimes, and it's easier to wear makeup with contacts.

I find that there are situations for both, because they do both have pros and cons. If you go with contacts, don't wear them if you're in front of the computer for a long time, they dry out like mad :)

well to be honest i had glasses from whe i was 4 to the time i was 14. if you get glasses they are always ready on time and less painful and the only cleaning you have to do is thelenses sometimes and you get better magnification for whatever they are used for. cons i the cost sometimes. contact lenses have to be soaked in a special solution every night and replaced withint a week and cost twice as much as glasses. plus if you lose them they are impossible to find of the time

Where to start...let's see-glasses, as every one else has said, can be a fashion accessory. They are also therapeutic if you have certain eye diseases. Glasses can correct the most severe vision, even with exceptionally strong astigmatism.

They come in different materials, from cr-39 (regular plastic), to polycarbonate (featherweights), to 1.60, 1.67 and 1.74 high index plastic for the thinnest and lightest lenses for your Rx.

Even if you decide on contacts, please be sure to get a backup pair of glasses. God forbid, if something happens to your eyes while wearing contacts, the doctor may not let you wear them for about 3 weeks, to let your eye heal.

when it rains you don't have to dry off your contacts.
you can sleep in them and wake up and see the alarm clock from across the room.

after almost 15 years i got contacts again. they're much easier to take care of now than the were. I'm very happy i got them again.

I've worn glasses since i was 12. sometimes you just get tired of them you know?
