He comes back and forth all day long in and out of the
station. My question is this can he survive in captivity? My wife wants to put him into our Aviary. He has become so used to our presence that he barely fliches when we approach the station to fill it up every morning. We are bird
breeders but mostly domestic birds and have ample supplies to take care of him. Can he survive?

If he isn't uncomfortable around the two of you, then he may not mind at all, but I'd think twice, because of this article that I found by the Audubon Society. Evidently, when your Cardinal friend feels 'in the mood', he'll become extremely aggressive:

That may mean that even if he adjusts just fine for now, things will change when breeding season rolls around.

I live in Georgia in the woods and we have Cardinals all around us. I have never seen them stay year-round, though. We're bird-people (cockatoos and ringnecks) and have a fair amount of experience with parrots. In my opinion I think it would get too cold outside. If you have an indoor flight it'd probably be OK.

No, this is a wild bird and would not make a good pet. It is illegal in the US to own, harm, harass, capture, or handle any wild bird without special permits from US Fish and Wildlife service and other state agencies. Just continue to enjoy wild birds in the wild..no need to try and domesticate them.

Wild birds belong in the wild. If the cardinal did not die it would be miserable.

In the U.S., it is illegal to kill, capture or keep songbirds, of which the Northern Cardinal is one.
