My 6 month old puppy has been almost wheezing. The lump in her throat comes out and it pulls her stomach muscles. It sounds as if she is gasping for air, what could this be? I am very scared about this I've raised her since 6 weeks. Please help. Thanks.

I haven't taken her yet because it started a week ago, but it was only about every other day. it's gotten worse and she just started doing it contantly. That's why I havent taken her, my fiance' is on the phone right now talking to someone.

She still plays and runs and eats and drinks normal. Her habits have not changed at all. No other symptoms.

Would you describe this behaviour as stretching the neck and retching?
YES! That is exactly it. It's almost like she's going to get sick but nothing comes up or out of her throat and I've checked it to see if something was stuck and didn't see or feel anything. Thanks for your reply!

Would you describe this behaviour as stretching the neck and retching? If your dog is eating ok and doesn't have a fever he could have bronchial irritation due to allergy, if he has a fever even low grade than he has a respiratory infection and needs to be treated with amoxil and atrovent. Lastly and not as likely is an airway obstruction. You will need to take her to a vet when you get a chance to rule out which one of these problems she has. Small breed dogs are also prone to this reverse sneezing. The vet can tell you and chances are your dog will do this periodically during it's lifetime and then you will know exactly what to expect and how to calmly deal with it every time.

My recommendation is to take her to the vet. She may have something stuck in her throat, or she may have a bad upper respiratory infection. I wouldn't wait until it gets worse, I would take her right away, because it could be something very serious, or it could be nothing. better safe than sorry though.

Take her to the vet immediately. Has she had her parvo shots, and all her other shots. Parvo can make it hard for them to breathe, and starts off with coughing, lost my first dog to it, and yes she was vaccinated, but she got it at birth from her mother and we didn't know about it until it was too late.

You know, if that was my dog and that same thing was happening, I wouldn't waste my time on yahoo answers. I'd be calling the vet right now.

could be a number of things, your best bet would be to take her to the vet, and have them take a look at her. It could be kennel cough? or maybe she ate something that got lodged in her throat.
