unlawful is contrary to the law, while illegal is a large sick bird

I think illegal will get you arrested, maybe put in jail.

Unlwful is when you fill up your gasoline can on the back of your pickup truck instead of on the ground. Or smoke in a non-smoking section. No big whoop, really.
