Better quality video input jack than the standard rca inputs(yellow red and white plugs). I use my S-Video jack on my big screen for my PS2.

It outputs the display to a standard TV set. VCRs, DVD-Players, PC video cards, game consoles, and analog camcorders are some devices that use them. It does not output digitally to an HDTV set however.

I've actually used an S Video Cord to play computer games on TV. Not as good as it sounds (Resolution is cruddy). S video is basically a better version of the standard AV Cords that most games come with. Their Cords go in this order (Highest to lowest)
HDIM>Component>S-Video>AV Cords> RF Cord

Unless you own a LCD TV, or a Plasma, you shouldn't use S video cords. You won't notice any difference.
