First off what you need is a heavy good quality pressing comb. A cheap one will do nothing but crisp your hair out. When you go the beauty supply store go by the weight of the comb. Second measure the heat of the comb by pressing it against toilet tissue. If the toilet tissue turns a little golden then you are good. Lastly, Sally Beauty Supply sells a titanium flat iron (I recommend 1") that goes up to 450 degress. Personally I crank it all the way up. And depending on your texture of hair you may not have to use the pressing comb with this flat iron. GOOD LUCK and um, don't put a lot of product in your hair before doing it (it will crisp your hair right off your head)

You need the kind of flat irons that are used on the stove. they are sold @ most beauty supply stores where black hair care products are sold. Also there is an oil called Optimum Oil Therapy shine booster you it as well it also helps to smooth the hair while blow drying or straightening. Good luck hopes these help

sorry i've never really tried it on a black person's hair, but i'm sure if you go to a hair salon and ask how to straighten it, they'll definitely have something... they can probably do it professionaly there, but it might be kind of expensive.. ask them for advice.. also, just to let you know... when i was like 15, i used to straighten my hair A LOT! and then it started to get thin, flat, and just plain ruined. it took a couple of months of no straightening or blow drying to get it back to it's normal full, thick, shiny self. now, i'm 18 and i only straighten if it's something really important that i want to look great for, if not, i just let it air dry or blow it out.... try not to do it too much, but once in a while is okay .. also, try to look for a heat-protecting product or leave-in conditioner.. they both protect your hair somewhat from the heat of the straightener =]
best of luck girl!

Don't know if this will help, but try a flat iron by Gold n' Hot. Their products tend to work pretty well. Some other posters have suggested ceramic flat irons. They work well, and are the best for your hair but they tend to be rather expensive. If you got the money to shell, then do it, by all means. But I'm a penny-pincher and my Gold n' Hot will have to do.

Not black..but I know that the CHI works wonders...Farouk makes irons that go up to 450 degrees.. i mean that is very strong. i dont recommend it that high but you get the idea. Chi Chi Chi...you can buy the small one..and it works well..but if you have a lot of hair you should but the one with 2 inches or more...The thin one is very handy though

My hair dresser uses an *** kicken straight n er ask your hair dresser I know it has to be ordered and it's like 90.00. But I use PROCLAIM beeswax and it is forweaves, braids, dreads it does a great job in protecting the hair while straighting and helps keep it straight for the whole day. I love the stuff !
