The ancient Druids would sacrifice animals to their god(s). But I realized something, What good is it to offer the blood of another? would it not be better to offer one's own blood? Personally the rituals I partake in never involve blood and my religion is against it. But wouldn't a let of one's own essence be a greater offering to the gods?

Blood is used in ritual as a symbol of life. While some ancient sects used the sacrifice of animals in their rituals, I don't believe that the offering of another's blood is worthwhile. Many times, the use of the animal was meant to release its spirit so that its spirit could be a conduit for the mystical energies -- in short, the sacrifice was not so much killing the animal for power as it was to have a carrier of that power.

When I was a ritualist, I was fond of blood ritual, but there's nothing that says you have to spill ALL your blood. A plain standard lancetter from walmart was part of my tools. Quick jab, drop or two of blood, done.

Some would interpret even this drop or two as 'harm', some don't.

Ultimately, in ritual, you must remember always that you yourself are the power, and everything else is just so much window dressing meant to focus your will. Strengthen your will and eventually you realize that the ritual is ultimately meaningless, that it is your will alone that is needed.

The Druid religion comes mostly from Erie land. and yes at one point they did practice sacrifice of either animals as the Israelites did also. some of the sacrifices came from volunteers the rest were either convicted lawbreakers or captured enemies.
just like the Israelites they stopped that means of sacrifice and went to offering a drop or so of their own blood to make the ritual or spell stronger and more personal.
Their main function was to keep alive the tales of their lands history and laws. through oral passing on at meetings.

I'm not Druid and I don't know much about that, but it seems wrong to me. I hear some people in other Pagan religions sometimes offer small amounts of blood to The God and The Goddess when offering cakes and wine to them.

Blood symbolizes life. It's what sustains our being and what keeps us alive.

Your opinion or mine means very little. It all depends on what God truly requires.
