We always use mythological names for our pets. Right now, I have a cat and dog who are both girls and they have goddess names - Chantico (named years before Starbucks named a drink that) and Shala. I like to give them names that aren't so common that we'll run into two or three of them at the dog park. (we've got 3 brandy's and 2 rusty's on our street!)

I once knew a gorgeous black standard poodle named D'Artagnan (from the Three Musketeers) / Dart for short and that name just suited him so perfectly.

I used to have 2 Standard Poodles. They were females, and we named them Dee Dee and Fancy. A male Standard could be named Guy, Bud, Stud ;), or Ralph.
