Well your actual best way would be to go in Germany for 2-3 months..., they may actually apprehend you...lol... ,but if not travelling, you may way to take at least a basic course that would give you correct pronounciation and basic details and exceptions... and as you are taking the course, simply suround youself with anything german... books, dictionary ,music,friends,restaurants,etc... Basically if you study 3-4 hours a day to learn as fast as possible..., you should have a good basic within 2-3 weeks and speak a little within 6-8 weeks...

Good luck... Tchuss!

I believe that the fastest way to apprehend a foreign language would be using handcuffs and a lot of elbow grease.

If you want to acquire a language as fast as possible, however, I would recommend using an immersion program in the area where the language is spoken.

I think you need handcuffs and chains to apprehend a new language. Now to COMPREHEND a new language, well it just depends. How fast you learn, the skill of the teacher and other factors. I'd say three to four weeks to get the basics of a new language down well.

Join the Met, graduate, hit the streets and shout at people on the London underground :
"HALT! POLICE!..( I may be armed!)... you are under arrest under suspicion of being a foreign language, anything you say in a foreign language may be disregarded as we are British and the British judicial system doesn't tolerate such nonsense, unless it is mildly amusing.. etc"
You should particularly direct this towards Brazilians with rucksacks, lunchpails and such things... they seem to like the exercise.

You'll have to start by joining some form of "security force",if you try to "apprehend" anyone without being a recognised and appointed member of the "security force" while trying to learn another language, someone will "hit" you, legitimately!!!

Total emersion. It is scientifically the best way to learn a new language. Just be around the language as much as you can and you will learn it. Think about it...how did you learn english??
