What is it with milk eggs and bread? There is a storm on the way now and this is all i see in people's cart.
If the power goes out, what are you gonna do with the milk? How will you fry the eggs? And bread? Put what on it? Toilet paper? Ha! How about some non-perishable products and a can opener for a change? I never understood this.

Thank You! I thought it was only me. how about buying some peanut butter and jelly to go with the bread or some cheap Gwaltney bologna? To wash it down buy some sippy juice boxes. Damn, not eggs and milk.

Good question.You are so smart.
I think it's because they panic already and aren't thinking straight anymore. Can happen to the best of us.They loose their mind because of the fear of what is about to happen. In the rush of panic they forget common sense and reason.

Milk, bread and eggs, despite the changing times, are still what people think of as the "bare necessities." The idea being, if you have NOTHING else in your refrigerator or cupboard, you should have these items.
Never mind the fact that these are also the three items most likely to expire and grow mold before they're used.

I live in Florida, and we don't buy the items you mentioned. The main things we buy is water and canned goods. We buy boards for the houses and propane to cook food in case we have no power. We also buy batteries. Most of us keep these items on hand year-round, because we never know when the power may go out from hurricanes or our typical summer t-storms.

It is a habit that goes back to pre-historic cave man days. Hard wired, inherent in our psyche, cannot be modified despite knowledge that milk, bread and eggs are useless in a hurricane, tornado, or ice storm.

Well, I think that list is a bit outdated. But, in general, people are going to get supplies that they think won't be in the stores after the storm hits. Many distribution lines may be interrupted and may cause "the basics" to not be available for quite some time.
In my area we tend to get things like batteries, foods you don't have to cook, etc.

I don't understand the eggs and milk thing either, unless that's what they will eat while they're watching the news that goes on endlessly for many days before any storm.
Here we stock up on tunafish, spam, rice cakes, soups, power bars, powdered milk, snacks, water, t-paper, etc.

If you can wait for my answer I will be able to get back to you on this. I have to run out to the store right now and get some supplies. There's talk of a blizzard.

Live thru Katrina, and you're more worried about water, canned food, diapers, and gasoline in the car.
