Preschool is a bad idea for most kids, so the cost includes the damage of separation from mommy prematurely (most kids shouldn't separate from mommy before age 5), plus the damage of inapproptiate educational techniques, the damage done by exposing kids to cliques and fads and conformity too young.
What a 3 - 5 year old really needs is lots of time with mommy, cooking, reading, playing board games, doing crafts, taking nature walks. No formal instruction, and yet the learning will be tremendous because it will be organic, natural, relevant. That is a quality life for a child. Preschool is a conformity factory that is contrary to the developmental needs of the children they allegedly target.

Call your local schools, they should be able to tell you if they have a free program like they do here in West Virginia, I have 2 boys that are starting pre- school tuesday........... good luck, it doesn't hurt to call and ask questions. again good luck
