What am I doing wrong? Is there an "acceptable" amount that would stick no matter what I do? Thanks.

like everyone said, add a little oil to your boiling water, but the key is to keep the heat a little lower as you are cooking it. if you keep it up high, the bottom of the pot stay sooo hot and all the stuff get burned quicker.

oil in water
lower heat
and constantly stir!!!! voila! no burns i promise. Ive been cooking for years!

good luck =)

Turn down the heat! Rice or spaghetti will definitely stick if it boils dry at the bottom of the pan. If you're cooking rice, be sure and cover the pan. Don't peek before it's done. If you have an electric range, try using two burners: one to bring the water to a boil and bring the water + rice back up to heat, and then move the pan to a cooler burner and cover it. If you cook a lot of rice invest in a rice cooker. I got one at a thrift store for $2--it's worked great for the last 8 years or so.

are you boiling it? if you are, then when you boil it, make sure it's not on high power but on medium. When you boil it, you have to make sure that you stir it every once in a while. that's probably why it sticks to the bottom of your saucepan. don't do anything to it but stir gently. then if there are bubbles rising then becoming bigger, then turn the stove down to medium if it's on high. if not, then taste the rice sticks and see if it's soft or not. if it's soft then you can take it out. if not, then wait for maybe about 5-10 more minutes then taste it again. it should be done by then.

Use a small amount of butter/margarine in the boiling water. For rice, rinse well before cooking. Put desired amount in pan, add cold water, swish with fingers, pour out water, and repeat until water is clear. About 4 or 5 times. Then add correct amount of water, and leave lid on for recommended time. For spaghetti, make sure you stir as soon as put in, and seperate, then stir all the way to the bottom of pan, frequently.

Make sure the water is boiling put in a tblspoon of oil. When you first pour your pasta in stir it a little so it doesnt settle on the bottom, do it a few times until the water is boiling again and then it wont stick.

Make sure you add a teaspoon of salt to the boiling water. It keeps the spagetti from gumming together. Also helps to add about a tablespoon of oil to the water. I like olive oil, but any will do. Make sure the water is boiling rapidly before you add the spagetti and it helps to add the spagetti slowly stirring it into the water.

I dont know the exact reason for that but I was always told to put salt in my water and stir it pretty often. My aunt puts salt and a small bit of olive oil. I honestly don't know the reasons to either of these but try it and it may help.

You need to cook your spaguetti with more water and stir it once in a while. Cook your rice with more water and be careful not to overcook it.
