The problem of unauthorised migration cannot be t ackled by such temporary measures. On going through the newsitem itself it is clear that the police are not very enthusiastic about the matter. In fact one expressed grave doubts if it would be possible to enforce the ordinance if passed. India's State of Assam has had the same problem. There are crowds of illegal migrants from the neighbouring Bangladesh which at one time of part of India before partition. Then Assam was the natural outlet for the Bengalees for employment. Just drawing some lines of maps is not going to alter the situation.Even the Hindu-Muslim antagonism cannot work. A farmer who gets cheap labour is not eager to look into the antceents of the worker. The migrants can easily circumvent the law by securing proof of residence. Some local politicians also overlook the influx for the opportunity of garnering votes.They say that the same contigency exists in the USA. The entire matter has to be studies dispassionately and solutions found.
