You aren't going to burn serious weight / calories doing crunches. You'll probably have to hit the gym / treadmill to burn the calories and lose the fat. Crunches just build the abdominal muscles and won't give you abs if you are overweight to begin with.

if you are trying to burn calories, crunches are not the way. crunches are considered anaerobic exercise, and they are mostly to build muscle, not decrease fat or calories. If you are trying to burn calories, try aerobic exercise such as running or jogging.
