I wanted to know what is best.... walking for a long period of time or jogging at a shorter period of time?

cardio is best the longer the better, you can get more in.

walking for an hour will probably burn just about the same amount of calories as jogging for a half-hour. however, the jogging would be better overall (to increase your metabolic rate) because of the extended increase in heartrate/inspiration (it's considered aerobic exercise). When you first begin a jogging regimen, it's difficult at first, but you have to SLOWLY increase your time in order to work up your endurance. You will notice after a month or so, you are able to jog for much longer and much faster than when you first began.

Best for what? Losing weight. OK. Walking does not get cardiac rate up high enough. Jogging is high impact. See this site under exercise to see why power-walking is best.

you burn approximately the same amount of calories in walking as in jogging. so the time limit will just be the same for both. if you jog for 3 weeks you loose the same calories if you walk for three weeks. the only difference is that your muscles get more toned in jogging than in walking.

Walking is better but the best thing is to mix both up..Jumping rope is the ULTIMATE..
