Whoa! You have a lot on your mind. I'm a Christian and have been involved in organized religion my entire life....and different kinds too. I have never heard anything about controlling the masses and maintaining.....whatever you said.

It's not that hard people. Stop thinking so much...dang! Whoa!

Who would be doing the controlling? That is, which heads of which churches are also heads of state?

And what parts of the world are you talking about?

Unless you're talking about guerilla warfare, which is a whole other issue, and which is generally--not always, but generally--motivated by things such as economic inequality and political disenfranchisement.

But as for heads of state using religion to control the masses in order to maintain a global state of perpetual war, that is a far reach. You are presuming that churches and states in Western societies, at least, are linked more closely than they are. I think. Heck, I guess that I just don't have enough information. But I do know that arguably the most powerful seat of organized religion in the Western world is the Vatican, and Italy isn't in a state of perpetual war. And when they were at war in WWII, it had to do with fascism, not religion.

A tool used by whom? I think that perhaps war and societal control factors are the result of widespread organized religion but I can't say that as a whole it is used to perpetuate unrest or to control the thoughts of everyone among the masses in every case in which religion acts as a catalyst in our everyday lives. Like any belief system religion has its pros and cons; this coming from a non-believer.

Organized religion is nothing more than a glorified chain business. And yes, it is a way to intimidate and manipulate people. And yes, it does seem as though religion is the root of many conflicts. Go figure. However, if "we" didn't fear something like "God," the wars might never end. Did you ever wonder what unorganized religion might be like? LOL =)

If it is, it's doing a poor job. I haven't seen too many guns or tank lessons in church lately. The pastor generally speaks about loving our neighbors and learning to be happy people with God. Since were learning about Jesus and how to live like He instructed, it would be weird for Christians to be pro-war. Jesus said those who live by the sword, die by the sword.

I think you're thinking about government, greed, and politics. Religion and faith should have nothing to do with these things.

I don't think anyone planned it that way but in people's hands, these seem to have been the main results, sure.
You'd think we'd get smart eventually, wouldn't you?...but it seems if you plant the seeds early enough (i.e in the young), folks will commit murder on behalf of unprovable, invisible beings - using phases like 'I know my God exists; now die!'
Pure madness!

*snickers* Have you ever met a church official? They're too busy dealing with their squabbling parishioners to deal with world domination! My mother has been working for a church most of my life, and it's taught me this-people flatter themselves in thinking their church is capable of that.
