My gastroentologist told me 3 months ago that I have a gastric reflux problem, when I sleep the acid goes back to my throat. Its been really hard for me for 3 yrs now because I have a difficulty sleeping and I get this feeling of being bloated when i wake up. I was brought to the E.R. 2 days ago because of dyspepsia due to my gastric problem. Just wondering if theres people out there who's going through the same thing. Thanks

There must be an army of us!

The respondent above is so right about Prevacid; it really, really works!

Try it, and also, when you are going through a bad week, avoid any raw vegetables like the plague...one salad, and you'll be sorry!

P.S. I also recommend Prilosec, which is available without a prescription. It also works like a charm!

I did. I went through all of that -- the prescription drugs, OTC meds, elevating the bed, Pepcid, Prevacid, Prilosec...everything.

What worked for me was to become a vegetarian. I don't eat any meat, but still consume eggs and dairy. If my tummy gets very upset now, I usually eat a handful of baby carrots and drink a glass of iced tea or water. Sometimes I take 2 Tums.
I'm not saying this could work for everyone, but within the first 2 to 3 weeks of my making the switch, I had almost stopped having tummy problems entirely.

It might be worth a shot. If you think you can't do it, because you can't live without steak or pork or chicken or whatever, think of how miserable you are living WITH them! Is it worth the discomfort?

And hey, you don't have to be strict, maybe every once in a great while, you have that steak for a special occasion. But stop and ask yourself each and every time if the temporary pleasure will be worth the lasting consequence.
Good luck and feel better soon!

Wow, it sounds like you've got a bad case of reflux! You also may have a hiatal hernia or a stricture, so it's a good thing you're going to see a doc! In the meantime, make sure you keep your head elevated when you go to bed, with 2-3 pillows. Make sure you eat very slowly and wait a minute or two after swallowing to take your next bite of food...and chew it up GOOD!. For now, stay away from sticky foods like bread and pasta, drink plenty of fluids (slowly) and try taking some over-the-counter meds like Pepcid or Zantac about 20 minutes before you eat. Good Luck!

My husband has been diagnosed with it for 15 years and I have been diagnosed with it for 5 years. We both take medications prescribed by our doctor. We don't take the same thing. We also sleep with the head of our bed elevated on a couple of bricks.

A hiatel hernia will cause that, as will other problems. I have been
taking prevacid for 5 years, and it is a lifesaver for me. Ask you
Doctor about it. Good luck.

In my case, it is related to what I eat. Fritos Corn Chips will do it. Cheap ice cream after a hamburger will do it too. My wife found that one on the internet somewhere.
