My cat slipped out last fall and was gone for 6 or 7 days. Did alot of research on how to get her back. I recommend placing his items outside so he can smell them and find his way back. We sprinkled the litter box outside and put her toys and blanket out as well as some food. She showed up at 2am a few days after we discovered these tips.
They also say to get a haircut and save the clippings to sprinkle outside so your pet can smell you. Cats are very smart and as long as they can smell something they associate with home they can find their way back. Remember it also takes 7 days for a cat's hunger to overcome his fear where he will come out of hiding to search for food
Hope he comes home soon.

Cats are very good at finding their way home, but you're right, it doesn't always happen. Call around to local animal shelters and vets to check if your cat has been picked up or turned in by anyone. Put up fliers with your cat's picture asking for his safe return.

And if you do get him back.....if you continue to allow him to be an outdoor cat, invest in some identification for him. Pet ID tags are fine, but collars can easily be lost or removed by someone. Microchipping is the way to go. Fairly inexpensive depending on the vet (ours charged us $26 dollars), and it doesn't harm the cat at all.

Good luck, I hope he comes home soon!

My cat just recently disappeared for 3 weeks and returned safely.

Cats are like this. They just leave without notice , but they mostly always come back. Print out flyers and knock on neighbors doors and describe your cat to them. Let them know how you feel , just in case someone stole the cat they might feel sorry and let it go. Good luck , and don't give up
