Pretty much any name brand full-size (avoid the short chassis designs) component chassis DVD/VCRs will work well. I recommend not going with the cheapest model, because you may miss some convenience features and usually the quality is not quite up to snuff.

I would suggest against a DVD/VHS combo as if one goes down (lets say your VCR) and you have to send it in for repair, you loose access to both items, not to mention if you get the 2 items sperate for cheaper.

I would recommend you get them separate, this way if one breaks down, you can still use the other.
Less is best when talking about stereo equipment, all in one systems are ok, but quality and clarity is better with separate component systems
Ex - Pre amp
Amp
CD Player
DVD Player and etc.
But it can be more expensive this way

I like my Sanyo. I think it pays to buy name brand and quality. Try to stay away from "house" brands.
