Does xanax help with quitting smoking?

I was just prescribe xanax as I have been having several things happen which have given me more stress and feelings of extreme anxiety. I am also trying to quit smoking and would like to know if being on this will help as I know that other drugs are used for that as well.

Ah, switching one addiction for another, I see. I don't recommend it. Only for very acute, very intense anxiety situations should you take an anxiolytic like this. Continued use dampens your adaptability and ability to develop a strategy for living, and dealing with that and other problems, which further compounds the problem. It is a vicious cycle, wear a helmet.
