I used to feed my dog Iams until I read about them on this site (www.iamscruelty.com) and saw the pictures and videos of the animals being abused in their laboratories. Please consider buying another brand of dog food. Feel free to post your thoughts ...

Thanks for all the opinions and advice it's appreciated. I know that it is very hard now-a-days to find any food or product that has not been tested on animals, and I know that the lab that PETA posts is not owned by Iams but was rather "leased" or employed by the company and they now have enough sense from the PETA backlash not to use that lab any more. But either way, they are responsible and were full aware of what happened and even if it is in the past I don't feel comftorable buying from a company that displayed such irresponsible and callous behaviour. I believe in corporate responsibility and I hope that in the future more companies will see that consumers want a product that is both benefiscial to their little furry friends and compassionate in it's production.

I have three cats and two dogs who used to eat Iams. After seeing the web video and checking further I switched all my guys about 12 months ago. Pet food manufactures need to take a responsible approach and realize that they can't keep consumers in the "dark".

Most, if not ALL, dog food companies have kennels where they test their dog foods. Better to test it there than on YOUR pet, right? I don't know whether the rumors and websites claiming this about IAMS are true or not. Go to the IAMS website and see their defense against these claims of abuse, which are reportedly made by PETA based on a very old and not too informative video that could have been taken anywhere.

Write them an email and explain why you're not buying their product. If people vote with their $$, companies will quickly change their ways. PETA is notorious for attacking their detractors or people who won’t support their radical agenda. They don’t believe that anyone should own pets at all – even if they’re loved and well-cared for.

I don't use "low residue" foods - they can sometimes cause intestinal problems - it's natural and healthy for the undigested materials to move out of the dog's system. I have always thought that IAMS and Eukanuba were overpriced for the quality of the ingredients - they use by-products.

Look for a food that does NOT have "by products" in the ingredients list or you'll be paying a lot of money for garbage. Personally, I like Nutro - it has no by products and is reasonably priced and my dogs have done great on it for more than 10 years. They make canned and dry dog foods for puppies and adults, and they have a new holistic line of food. Any changes in diet should be made slowly to avoid diarrhea - gradually mix more new food in with what you've been using until he's switched over. http://www.nutroproducts.com/naturalchoicedog.asp

My friend feeds her labs Canidae (www.canidae.com) and they look great! This is another all-natural, no by-product food.

No matter if the site has any validity to it or not IAMS/Eukanuba isn't the best quality food nor healthiest to feed pets any way. It is full of cheap fillers such as corn(which is undigestable for dogs & cats, serves no nutritional value and is one of the major causes of allergies in pets right along with wheat & soy) and by products.
Cats & dogs are made to derive most of their protein from meats not grains. They also don't effectively extract nutrition from grains. It takes twice as much grain based food for a cat/dog to get the proper amount of protein & nutrition then it does from a mostly meat based food. The more food in the more waste out. A food should have meat for at least the first two ingredients (more is better). Vets are wonderful and I've worked with/for them for many years, however in most cases their nutritional info and food recommendations aren't the best. This is simply because 1) they tend to recommend foods they hear about most 2) because their nutrition classes in school are general not species specific. They learn a bit about everything from cats to rats, dogs to hogs with only the very basics.

I don't suggest anyone use Iams/Eukanuba, but nothing to do with labs/cruelty...it is that for what it is, it is way too expensive; you can spend the same amount of money and get a WAY superior premium quality food that is much better for your pet and just so much higher in quality for the exact same price, so why pay that money and get crap? Iams/Euk is barely a step up from supermarket brand foods.

Anybody feeding Iams/Eukanuba, I suggest a brand called Solid Gold pet foods, sold in most pet stores. It is a holistic food, sells for about the same price as Iams/Euk, and kicks a$$ on the quality of Iams/Euk.

If you're gonna spend the same amount of money anyway, why not get the healthier product for your pet? Try Solid Gold instead.

When you post PeTA propaganda as actual facts, it IS about PeTA and nothing else.

It was from YEARS ago and the video was proven to be false and doctored. The animal rights groups (HSUS, DDAL, IDA, ADL, etc) LIE to further their no pet agenda. Most of what they say is halftruths or outright lies and I would not believe them if they told me it was a hot summer. I can't believe they still use it, you'd think they would be embarrassed, but they have no shame and obviously it is still working for them.

I don't feed IAMS because I don't like it. My choice has nothing to do with the AR propaganda.

Here, click on facts at the bottom if you are interetested in the truth.

Yeah, I don't base my product choices on propaganda. My dog have gotten Eukanuba (mixed with a little Innova) for a long time and do well on it. My cats love Iams original!!!!!!
Don't base all your thinking on what a few are saying. There is other information out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw the same one and was disgusted by it.....That is why my Dalmatian gets a homemade diet of chicken/rice/beans/noodles/lamb/pork/yougurt/cottagecheese/etc.....a bit of work, but good for SAMMYleggs and really is cheaper in the long run....She is a loving pet and is really coming along with private training lessons...loved by her family!!!!
