Can you wait until after your trip to get the coloring done? It would be better if you could. Chlorine won't totally ruin it, but it can affect the chemicals in the dye giving it a tint, green is the norm.
As for the color itself, go with which ever is closer to your natural hair tone. If your hair is medium to dark ash brown, then get the light ash brown. If your hair is medium to dark golden brown, then get the light golden brown. On anybody, their natural color looks best. If you don't have either of those tones to your natural color, then maybe try to find one that is the same tone. Otherwise, go with the golden.

Light ash brown is better, light golden brown is the colour of most blonde babies.. The light ash brown is sexier and just use a shampoo and conditioner made for brown hair like John Frieda Brilliant Brunette, it really keeps the colour safe, also use a protective spray on ur hair before u go swimming like Lancaster Sun Hair Protection Spray protects from chlorine, sea-salt and UV rays and its waterproof. Refreshing Sun Protection Spray by Shiseido can be used on the hair and body and is SPF15 and really good, i use it and i have platinum blonde highlights and they didnt change colour at the pool.

Your skin tones will be the best guide of which color would look better. Do you need more color or less?
Before you swim, rinse your hair and put conditioner on it. Then wear a plastic bag inside a swim cap. That will keep your hair in excellent condition, and your hair will be filled with the conditioner so the chlorine will not damage it.

light golden brown is better... the ash brown looks a little moussey and grey
as for the chlorine - use an intensive conditioner in your hair before the first time you go in a pool with your new colour, and make sure you shampoo and condition when you get out. if you do that im sure you'll be fine!

Why don't you wait until after your trip, or just get a swim cap, chlorine is bad for anyhair color, treated or not. And while skin tone will dictate which color will look best on you, golden tends to be shinier and prettier than ash. good luck

Why are you asking? You are still going to do what you want to do.
