The worst part for me was when they put on the chain of the colorful brace bands. (forgive me, its been awhile since braces..i'm 22!) Your question made me think back to when they first put it on...they put it on to close up any gaps between your straighten teeth. Hurt like a b*tch...take a couple tylenols/advils and you'll be ok.

Good luck!

The worst part for me was/is the pain. (I still have my braces) after each appointment your mouth most likely will be a bit sore for a couple days, but every person is different, so just eat soft foods if it hurts. Make sure you brush your teeth well or you'll get cavities. I'm gonna be a bad person and tell you this, they probably gave you a long list of what not to eat (I think mine was at least 3 pages long) but I've never stopped eating anything that I wanted to, and I have never broken anything because of it, but you should be careful. (I overheard at an appointment once that chewing ice is what causes more breaks than anything else) I still eat carrots, but I eat the little, thinner ones as opposed to the thick ones. Another bad part is foot will get caught between your teeth and the wires, but just brush and it usually all comes out. In a few years you'll have perfectly straight teeth though!

I had braces for 8 years, you'll find minor limitations but for the most part it won't be a terrible, life ruining experience. Think of the bright side, you're going to have an incredible smile that people would kill for, or would kill to be able to afford.

Its going to be hard to eat certain foods, corn will be up there on the list. Also gum or stick candies....I've popped a bracket off from eating carmel, that was not a pleasant experience. Be happy to have your braces on at 12, my friend at them at 19. People also have them as full grown adults so getting the "Braces phase" over with at 12 is a godsend, you'll be thankfull later, I am.

The wax they give you...USE IT. it'll save your gums from being torn apart while they adjust to the new braces. take pain medicine (Advil/Tylenol) BEFORE an appointment with your orthodontist, tightings hurt but if you take pain killers prior to the appointment you won't be feeling half of it since the majority of the pain will have been numbed, or dulled, as long as you take the medicine before, to give it time to kick in.

Try to have a spare toothbrush with you for meals, just in case. Ive never gotten much stuck in my braces but its always good to have a back up plan. I would gargle water after a meal to get out any extra food trying to stick around.

The worst part? I think the worst part for me was after I got the braces off. Yeah, my mother would always "gently" nag me day in and day out to wear my retainer so my teeth would not move back to their awful ways. She probably did this torturing nagging because she and my dad spent a bunch of money on getting my messed up teeth fixed. All in all, I am greatful they spent the cash on me.

As a 13 yr old who has braces, the worst part is not being able to eat whole apples. I cant seem to bite them! Honestly, as a kid, I don't follow any rules of no sticky stuff or anything execpt carmal corn. I broke two brackets from it. But so far gum is fine,I even eat chewy candies like suger babies. Thats just me though- I would ask whoever payed for them if you can eat stuff first though.
Another bad part is stuff really bothers you if it gets stuck.(i.e. carrotts, celery, popcorn, ect.)

Always brush your teeth as frequently as you did before you got braces, if not moreso. This will decrease the chances of your teeth becoming stained. It's good that you got them so early, so you can go ahead and get it out of the way. Some day, you'll understand.

The retainer afterwards was the hardest thing for me.I just could not put something in my mouth, not secured in my mouth.Sounds like a personal problem, but it was for real!!
If you don't do it,(all the way through)you will regret that you didn't.take it from me..Braces part was easy.

The wait until your teeth are straight and the braces come off. It may seem like forever, but it will go fast because you will get so busy you will forget they are even there. Follow your orthodontist's instructions and you will marvel at the results!

MAKE SURE TO CUT THINGS UP RATHER THAN BITE INTO THEM, SO YOU DON'T GET FOOD SQUISHED UP IN YOUR BRACES. AND CARRY ONE OF THOSE TRAVEL TOOTHBRUSHES. FOOD IN YOUR TEETH NOT ONLY RUINS YOUR SMILE, BUT IS CAUSES ROTTEN BREATH AND TOOTH DECAY. GET USED TO HITTING THE RESTROOMS AFTER EATING, AND A QUICK BRUSH-UP TO GET RID OF ANY FOOD PARTICLES.

Just make sure you brush and gargle morning and night or it will give you bad breath.

You are going to have beautiful teeth when you get older honey!
