Stress can cause dermatitis but that would not be contact dermatitis.

If the contact dermatitis is a new condition for your mother -- and she never exhibited allergic symptoms from that particular substance before (whatever it is) then yes, stress could very much be a factor. Stress might not be the initial cause, but it is definitely making it worse or causing it to show up to a degree where she and others notice the symptoms. Eliminate or lessen the stress in her life and her dermatitis should either disappear or at least become less intense.

Contact Dermatitis is from actual contact like Poison Ivy. However, stress does show up in many ways. She really should see a doctor just to rule out all possibilities, plus he could give her something stronger than OTC medication.

I know stress can cause rashes. I don't believe it can cause contact dermatitis...because "contact" dermatitis is caused by coming in "contact" with some sort of allergen.

Bless your mom's heart. I broke out in hives from extreme stress a few weeks ago. Hang in there.

well yes stress can show itself in many ways including physical ailments such as pain, rashes... Contact dermatitis means your skin is irritated from something you touched (came in contact with) so she doesn't exactly have "contact dermatitis" from stress but stress can also make your immune system weaker and make you more susseptable to getting illnesses. So my answer is yes, and no, and maybe.

Yes, my sister had developed it some years ago when going through a bad divorse. Even worse she started losing her hair. I hope your mother's situation changes soon, it is all very serious.
