Hi!
That's a mexican expression used to reffer to a friend. It's the equivalent to terms like "dude" and "pal". But this specific word can be used with either male or female friends.
About the spelling, I've seen it speeled: GUEY or, like you mention in your question: "WEY".
It's not "buey" like some pointed! Buey is a animal, people! (I think the closes translation to this animal would be MULE or ***).
That's what I can tell you!

Goodluck!

Its a slang mexician word,it comes from the animal "buey" (castrated bull). It could be used as "dude" in english

Wey: is used when you call are calling a friend not for his real name. Ex. Heey wey ven para acá o ¿Que onda wey? (Whats up dude!)
"pinche güey" is used as bad word

2. Oye (wey), no has visto al (wey de) Luis? - here wey is "silly"
Hey (wey), have you seen (al wey) Luis?
2 "Oye güey, me prestas tu cuaderno?" - hey wey, can you borrow me your notebook?
3-" Que güey estas!" What a wey you are! (as an idiot)

A buey, some people pronouce it 'wey,' is a castrated male ox. It is a term of abuse similar to 'jackass' in English.

It was a bad word, but now it's accepted (at least in Mexico) as a synonym of dude/friend, but we only use it with a close friend.

I think literally it means a bull....but in slang, it's like and ugly guy word for "dude".....i mean, it doesn't sound right for girls to use it :)
