Your question could be: HOW MANY HOURS ARE THERE IN A DAY? If this were your question you would be splitting hairs - but you would be essentially correct.
The exact length of a day - to the nearest hundredth of a second - is 23 hours, 56 minutes, 4.09 seconds.
And here I have been knowing this little fact for YEARS - and never thought I would ever find any use for it. :))))
Additional note: The answer given by Gavin T. is for maximum security prisoners on death row. And while it may apply to other prisons? I know for a fact it applies to Angola State Prison, in south Louisiana, because my brother's adopted son is there.
