Yes use a primer. Have your paint store tint the primer to a color similar to your paint swatch. I use to work in a paint store. Primer can be tinted, however it takes the tint very quickly, so only a fraction of the formula should be added to the primer. I think I use to use 1/4 or 1/8 the formula. Tinted primer will not be a perfect match for your color, so don't expect that to be the outcome. Graying the white primer will work also. Even white primer straight out of the bucket is better than no primer.

I painted over dark purple. Try using Bins white primer. Be prepared to do at least 2 coats of primer. I covered with a lighter color and it took 2 coats primer and 2 coats of paint.

Definatley use primer. You don't want the red to bleed through into the olive green! It will ruin everything and you will have to do it all over again. Use a nice white primer. It will go on smoothley and easy. The extra time is worth it.

YES, prime the walls first, because if your putting a lighter color over a dark color, it will turn out a differnet shade of green. And plus, if you do prime, it will look more even and smooth.GOOD LUCK-i love your color choice!!!primer should be white or the color you are going to paint it.

i would first of paint the wall white .any old flat white paint will do once that has dried you could paint your walls the colour you want if you paint over the red with the green it would come out brown .but over painting with white will soften the red and allow the green to dominate
