I'm not certain I want your idea of reality. By the way I was never taught to "fear" God. As children we were taught that God is in every living thing (even if we can't see it move) and that God loves us. Therefor it comes down to my faith in the Divine being as easy as breathing.
That's why I stay away from the
main prescribed religions -- however, I try my best not to denigrate their beliefs. Chris K is correct. You should be ashamed of yourself.
Why bad things happen I don't know and I'm not about to wander off onto some spiritual debate with you about them either. I'm not religious. I choose to have what faith I have. And whether you want it or not, a blessing on you, my child.

Pill of Truth,
You talk about love, do you? What kind of love do you have that will take you through eternity. If I didn't know any better, I'd say tht you are angry that you haven't found God. The anger is obvious and I understand it. I would be too if I knew and He didn't respond in the way I expected Him to.
I tink that your problem is that you already know that there is a God, and you probably know that the Christian God is the real one. But why won't He answer you?
The only thing that I can think of at this point is that you are so full of pride. That really turns Him off. You think that you are better than other people. That's your problem, but it doesn't have to be.
Somehow I can read you like a book. I don't understand why, but the longer you carry something around with you, the more it affects you. If you truly had love, it would have shown in your statements. But you love affection. Love is cloaked from you because of your pride.
Will you just lighten up a little? I have never seen the likes of what you are. So troubled, but so desirous of the greater things that you deny.
Peace to you, in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Edit: Can you explain the kinds of responses that you are getting? All the Christians are picking up on this desire that you exude. Fascinating.

You're angry. OK, so you don't get it. You feel like you've been led on a wild goose chase. But millions of people claim that its real, can they all be wrong?
It isn't about how hard you try, it isn't about how spiritual you are, it isn't about how you feel. Christianity is not about checking your brain at the door. Do you believe Napoleon Bonaparte really conquered the known world? Did you know that there is more historical evidence for the existence and achievements of Jesus Christ than there are for the existence and achievements of Napoleon? Its true. Get a book written by Josh McDowell called, "More Than a Carpenter." It does a great job of presenting the evidence for God than any other publication I've read.
If there is real reason to believe in God, would you? If there is real benefit to trusting the Bible, would you? I have benefited greatly in my faith. I came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ because of the mess I'd made of my life. I submitted to the will of God and learned how to manage my money, how to earn people's respect, how to deal with people who weren't acting the best. On and on, but the greatest thing I've learned is that God loves me and wants me to love Him.
All it takes to change all this , don't you feel it? stuff is to say no, but I do believe it. Feelings follow actions, and if people are following their feelings, they have the cart in front of the mule. A mule will pull a cart and stay on the trail, but if the mule pushes the cart he has no choice but to follow where it goes. He doesn't understand the concept of steering. The same goes for those Christians who are asking you to 'feel' faith. Faith is a choice, not a feeling. Either you decide to trust God or you decide not to trust God. He is trustworthy.

I apologize for any offense you took to that, remember christians are NOT perfect. We are very far from it. I personally hate singing in church, but that doesn't mean I love God any less. There is no pretending if you sincerely know the Word and the Truth and the Life. I also want to clear up that little rumor that we are constantly putting on fake smiles and always happy, I have been depressed many times in my life, and I have never tried to hide it. Knowing God is not instant perfection by wordly standards, its admitting that you can't get by without Him anymore, and without Him I know that I wouldn't have been able to get by at all. When ppl insult God, I feel like they are insulting a truly loved father, and it literally makes me sick to my stomach. On a last note, nobodys heart is pure, on our own there is a deep canyon between us and God, but Jesus forms the bridge, many ppl just try to find an alternate route, but we only have so much time before we decide to take the route presented to us before we realize that there is no other way. This is not insult it is truth.

I'm a Christian, just so you know. Yeah, I've met the type you're talking about. It really is sort of offensive. Can be really frustrating to hear that, too. To answer your question, to have a relationship with God, all you have to do is talk to Him and tell Him how you really feel and think and what happened to you today. it's like having a relationship with a person (sort of). You spend time together by praying (just talking to Him) and listening (reading the Bible). If you don't think that you "really want it" then ask Him to help you really want it. He won't turn you away just because part of you wants to run off and do whatever. He's not a tyrant. He just wants to be with you, and even if you don't fully want to be with Him, He really likes that you're willing to be there anyways and develop your relationship to the point that you're looking forward to the next time you get to be with Him. Sorry that there are so many people out there just talking nonsense so much.

All so many times people confuse religion and reality, but we know this one thing that religion is apart of everyday reality. Yes I am a Christian and I do believe in God. You say that you accept reality over religion, but if you think back into history not just the bible but, the Quran, and other books have caused a lot of confusion. The Muslims believe in Allah, Christians believe in God, Buddhist believe in Buddha and so forth is this not apart of your every day reality? Although you consider it a spiritual level game I think of it as if you don't stand for something you will fall for anything!

In order to have a relationship with God it has to be cultivated like any other relationship. As a Christian it's my goal to have a close relationship with Him; there's no joy in being simply religious. You spend time talking with Him and also listening to Him; this is called prayer. You read His word and meditate on it. You also spend time with fellow believers. All of these things help Christians to grow closer to God. I don't know about you, but my reality is pretty ugly right about now. Without God in my life I wouldn't be able to handle reality.

I don't understand what you're getting at, but I don't "pretend" anything. I do sing (though not that well unfortunately), and it is from joy. I don't claim to be perfect, and I have my "down" moments, but I, like every other Christian, am a work in progress. I don't understand how that's offensive to you, that I choose to live my life that way. I made my choice, and you make yours. I'm not trying to change yours, but it's just as condescending to criticize my choices. Can't we agree to disagree?

Reality is this: a true convert to Christianity is a call to die to self, pick up your cross, and follow Christ. A false convert is what you just described. A hypocrite. One who says one thing, yet does another. If a Christian is not living in holiness and runs with the world and thinks there is nothing wrong with it because they prayed Jesus into their hearts once, than I say they are not currently going to Heaven but to Hell. Christianity is this: realize you are a sinner and have offended a Holy God and that you have done nothing your whole life except sin against God. That you are a God hater and unless God saves you from your depravity then you are completely lost and the wrath of God lies on your head. The Bible promises that unless you become broken and bow to Christ now in this lifetime on Earth, repent and trust in Christ to save you from God's Judgment, then you will be ground to powder and will be without excuse on The Day of Judgment.

well all have sinned come short of the glory of God. none of us is pure only God. and you need not pretend some people are less expressive than others while some are more expressive. we cannot decieve God we ony deceive ourselves when we pretend , but it does not mean the person sing and dancing and being expresive is pretending. of cos u can deceive everyone around you if u pretend but you cannot deceive God. so to pretend is futile and dont compare yourself to other people, if they are pretending thats its between them and God. you go before Him sincerely and honestly, thats all he wants... whichever way you want quietly or singing it does not matter. what matters most to Him is what is in your heart.
