Hello, I'm in the market for an electric car (Or hybrid), one that get's good mileage and speed. I've seen the Tesla Sports car, but it's way beyond my price range. Does anyone know anything about them?

Hybrid vehicles and gas savings are a myth. In the real world the hybrids get only nominally better fuel mileage for MUCH more money, upkeep and lowered performance. The fact is a used 2000 Honda Civic gets nearly as much fuel mileage as a hybrid and you will save over $15,000.00 if you buy a really nice one. So...how much gas can you buy with 15 large? The hybrids are a step in the right direction but are really nothing more than a feel-good band-aid for a desperate problem.

If you can wait a year or two, you'll be able to buy a much better electric car than you can right now. Here's a pretty cool one, it's a Chinese import, it does 200 miles per charge, 80mph top speed, and costs $28500:

But how about electric cars you can buy right now? There's the ZAP - it's only $10,000 - but you can't take it on the freeway:

For $25,000 you can get a freeway-capable electric car, the NMG. It is a bit funny looking:

Electric vehicles save lots on fuel costs - for a typical driver, gasoline can cost $150-200 per month. That same mileage, for electricity in an electric car is only $10-20.

As for hybrids, they can indeed save most people money, but it depends on how much you drive. Don't just listen to loud pronouncements about whether they save money or not - do the calculations yourself using this calculator that will show you comparisons of Hybrid operating costs:

Are you asking about the Tesla or something more practical? Your practical answer here.

Did you know that a Toyota Corolla is actually more economical than a Prius?

Yes Prius is the best hybrid right now. But you are spending a lot of premium on buying the car where you can spend it on gas with a Corolla for many years.

there is an electric car produced in Richmond, BC, Canada I saw on the news the other night....I forget the name...it was a rather funny looking thing, but was totally electric...they cant keep up with the demand...most of the buyers are American. But its hard to compare with a Toyota...
