I'm looking into buying a new printer, but all the new ones have this chips in the cartridges that count the number of pages that have been printed off, and after a certain amount, they lock up and refuse to print again, even if there's still ink in the tank, forcing you to buy a new cartridge. This is highly undesirable as the cartridges are too expense. Are there any ways to circumvent this at all?

Yes, but it's not an easy thing to do. What you need is a chip to replace the manufacturers original. The chip resets to full whenever it powers up.

There are ink suppiers that will supply you with replacement cartridge sets if you buy their bulk ink systems. Epson's are a popular brand for this technology.

That has not been my experience.

What brand / model of printer cartridge has a page count / lockout device?
