How can there be an angel of death, Michael, if in Hebrews 2:14 it says that Satan holds the power of death? Is it really the devil that ends our lives when our time comes, I always thought it was God calling us home? Please no answers mocking any type of faith, I am in search of some insight, thank you.

I have found my answer thanks to IdahoMike, I reread Hebrews 2 and it makes sense now. I am really surprised at how cold and sarcastic some people can be here, everywhere for that matter. Thanks Mike. Since I can't close the question now, I just thought I'd post this.

Death is when your body ceases to function sufficiently to sustain your conciousness and you die.

No angels, demons or J.C. and his boys.

enjoy your LIFE

Michael is not the angel of death. Satan does not hold power over death any longer for those who are in Christ. Christ defeated death for us. The Bible says, "for the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" Romans 6:23. This is why the devil no longer has power over the death of a believer.

The power Satan has over death is only over those who do not receive the free gift of salvation God has made available to all who would receive it. The devil's power is in the sin that brings death.

God does call us home. He never said this physical body wouldn't die. And, if a person should find themselves in hell, then that was a choice they made in life, for they denied Christ. They will face true death. People don't seem to understand the worst about hell, which is being separated from God for all eternity.

P.S. to deckape: don't worry, from the way you talk, you don't have a "contract" with God that you have to worry about getting out of. If you really knew God, you'd not be wanting to go back to your unsaved self.

Well this probably a across over from another religion.
ST Michael is the angel that defeated ST Lucifer and threw him out of Heaven.so that leaves him out.
Satan's role is to try and tempt peoples souls away from Gods Path ( a Temptor but does not hold any power over death.).
Who ever Entropy(the last living? entity left after the last judgment.) is would be the answer. its depicted as a skeleton with a scythe to cut the silver cord that holds the soul in the body According to legends.also call the Grim Reaper an entity that collects the souls of the dead and delivers them to the other side of life.
The CREATOR OF ALL THINGS would also fit this role as it would be the first and last entity around after the Judgment Day.
So yes it would be a mixing of myths and legions that have creep into the Christian religion for another country.

Actually, that particular scripture is not saying that Satan holds the power of death, but it is GOD that holds the key. See, you have to go back to Hebrews 2:10 and understand that CHRIST is tha High Priest! I can't remember what book of the Bible this is in, but it says: "And the Word was with God and the word was God". You first have to understand that Jesus is God in the flesh. Also remember that God allows the devil to do the things that he does, so that we will understand we need to trust only in Him. Why, b/c God reigns SUPREME!

Satan did hold the power of death before Yeshua kicked his head in. Messiah took the power of death from Lucifer and destroyed Satan's greatest tool against man. The sin of Adam was the key to the power. Adam was a traitor and the father of the human race. His sin was interposed on all mankind and could only be removed by the blessed sacrifice of God himself as a spotless lamb. Messiah died for God's sake and for His glory. Not to save the angels, they are not in need of a redeemer. There is no hope for those spirit beings. Angels who do the bidding of God to deliver the souls of men to the presence of God are ministering spirits to the saints. They do the bidding of the Holy One.

You have a free will of choice to believe in Satan(Lucifer-Angel of death Gabriel) or God (your creator). It's not the God who calles you home. Since Jesus came to the earth by believing him you can go to God. And don't worry, Satan's power will end soon. We Christians should not beleive in death because our souls will never die.

Unfortunately, Idaho Mike failed to mention that death will not be destroyed until the present age is complete.

Until then, we are all still subject to death, by whatever means, plus all the associated suffering and grief.

That is part of the penalty for our sins.

The only difference today, is that the devil doesn't get to keep us, after we die.

Christ's death on the cross didn't pay for everything, as many people maintain, otherwise we wouldn't still have to die.

For those of The True Christian Faith there is no "death"

Michael is not the angel of death

re read Heb 2:14...it says satan "had" the power of death... he lost that at the victory of Jesus. The resurrection of Jesus defeated death.

I accept honest email questions concerning the basics of The Christian Faith. Or, you can read some about it on my website at:

there is a angel of death and his name is malikil mowte.

And he (i.e. man) presents for Us an example (i.e. attempting to establish the finality of death) and forgets his [own] creation. He says, “Who will give life to bones while they are disintegrated?” Say, “He will give them life who produced them the first time; and He is, of all creation, Knowing.” [It is] He who made for you from the green tree, fire, and then from it you ignite. Is not He who created the heavens and the earth Able to create the likes of them? Yes, [it is so]; and He is the Knowing Creator. (Quran, 36:78-81)

long storey short. god wrote the time you die and how you die. the angel moute comes to get ur soul and to then you will know if you are going to hell because he wil ltell you if god is proude of you or not. then you will wait for jugment day but if you rebeled aginst god u will have a beatin by the angels of punishment while you wait. now you know, ok so turn to islam.

Good Question
Satan is the angel of Death, but I think it is more of his condition, that is he is condemned to death.

Satan has no power over a christian, he has power over his own, but even that to take a life he would have to have permission to do so.

No God alone gives and takes life!
