You can get Tactic dip from a farm supply store, usually around $30 for 1 gallon. Off label use for mange, but is cheaper than dips from the vet. Is she has skin that is infected, it needs to be treated with oral antibiotics.

It depends on the type of mange your dog has, and IF it's truly mange. There are 3 types. Sarcoptic mange, Cheyletiella mange, and Demodectic Mange. If your dog is 3 years old, then it's most likely not Demodetic. If the mites are large and red, it could be Cheletiella which isn't all that terrible for the dog, and the mites don't live long. If it's Sarcoptic, which I suspect it is...the best thing you can do is call a vet. The treatment for this is in injectable form (Ivermectin) in weekly, or bi-weekly doses for about a month. Some dogs don't tolerate that well, and in those cases, if you can find a Lyme Sulfur dip...that can do some good.

Be sure your dog HAS mange, though. It's summer and he/she could have a flea allergy, or just a simple allergy to grass. You don't want to treat your dog for something he/she doesn't have, you know?

Sarcoptic Mange or Demodex? Has this been dx from a vet? There are a few different treatments. Ivermectin is the most used product. It can be found in Heartgard for cats and dogs. Heartgard is a HW Preventative. Selamectin is in Revolution, another HW Preventative used as a preventative for Sarcoptic mange in dogs, also. Dogs MUST be tested for heartworm PRIOR to using these prescription medications. Also, this would be a very slow process.

Please, the safest and best route is to use a vet. If you are unable to properly care for your pet, you should not own one. Pets are a responsibility that requires more than just fresh food, water and love. It requires money, and sometimes lots of it. I found a website that does have an alternative, BUT it still costs $$ MONEY. $$ http://members.dslextreme.com/users/universe/AmberFoundation/Mange/mandes_DesperateMeasures.html You should contact a Chihuahua rescue and see if they will take your pet and have him treated and re-homed. Mange is very uncomfortable, irritating, itchy and more. If there is a skin infection, antibiotics MUST be administered.

Please consider the health of your dog - relinquishing your rights, if you are unable to treat this dog, is in the best interest of this dog. She deserves a healthy lifestyle, not one filled with pain. Sorry to say...

I need to know the answer to this too, theres a stray cat around my apartment that I think has the mange. I can't take her to the vet. I have been trying different things but nothings helping. Were not even allowed to have animals, but I feel so sorry for him. So I'm gonna keep an eye on your question if you don't mind see if I see any ideas besides taking to vet, which is impossible. :)

Mange is caused by mites, (humans can get them).
One thing to try is this:
Mix 2 tablespoons each of garlic powder and goldenseal powder.
Add to 1/4 cup of olive oil.
Apply this frequently to affected area.
I used this on a pup I found, I washed the pup in as tobacco bath first. it worked great it did take about two weeks before I seen hair growing back.
a tobacco bath is just that, I used 6 cigarettes in hot water, let cool. With a puppy I used a cotton ball to rinse it. for big dogs just repeat pour it over them, 5 to 10 minutes.
The other thing I know works I would only use if the animal stayed outside, and that is to, wash it and cover the affected with used motor oil it dirty but it works if you apply 3 to 4 times a day
I hope this helps out.

It looks like mange, but a competent vet should be able to recognize that. Mange medication is topical, and the treatment shouldn't stress her out anymore than a bath. She may not be getting enough fat in her diet. If it is itching give her benedryl or another antihistamine.

Not the only word you can't spell, just look it up on the Internet. Click, click, click. Why not click on "Check Spelling"?

Can't afford a vet? That means you can't afford to have the dog. Animal abuse.

nope, no home remedies. The only way to get rid of it is by medication provided by your vet, the longer you let this go on the longer it will take to get rid of. If you cannot afford to take your dog to the vet then maybe you may need to find someone to adopt her so she can get the treatments she need
