Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp which no decent human being would eat?

People heat stuff other than bread in their toasters. Sometimes you need high heat for frozen pastries.

great question same darn thing my toaster does. I think that the fact the people who made it doesn't know the amount of heat that will make the perfect or near perfect toast. Really, my toaster has a dial to the far left it shows a piece of toast with a light coloring, the far right end had a picture of burnt toast. I swear if you put a little teeny weeny bit higher above the light toast, my toast is burnt. >> And this darn thing must be for toast since it have a picture of toast to indicate either you want it light or burnt. -.- Plus it's only small enough for a toaster, eggo waffles, toaster struddles, and pop tarts. to wrap this up people who make these lovely toaster misjudge the amount of heat to create one heck of a good peice of toast.

What?! You don't like your toast to turn to ash as soon as you take a bite? If toast is that important, stand there and watch it while it toasts....it's a lot of fun. If that doesn't work for you buy an expensive toaster and if that doesn't work at least you can tell people that your toaster costs $80. They will think you are awesome.

Excellent question! And why does it take so long to find the perfect setting for the perfect toast?!?!?!

I guess it's easier to let the burners stay on and on, but it takes some engineering to figure out how to make it cut off at a decent time.

hmmm... maybe it's because some stuff like waffles might be really really super duper frozen and needs some help defrosting in the toaster.

Pretty much what he said, but I would contest the fact that certain people dont like burnt stuff, my grandfather litterally like his pancakes smoking before he takes them off the skillet, I'm not kidding.
