The masturbation itself is not sin. Wasting semen has nothing to do with it. In no way do any of those verses that people so often quote have anything to do with masturbation.
But Jesus says in Matthew chapter 5 verses 27 and 28:
"You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.' But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Ever tried strokin' the bishop without thinking of a woman? It's a little difficult.

Cause they want to control our sexuality.
Remember many religions want you to abstain from sex until after you marry (someone from the same religion of course). If you enjoy the pleasure of sex on your own, you might consider trying it with a partner. They do this with the hope that every nut you bust results in a more babies which you promised to raise Catholic (that's why you agree to at the ceremony), and more future parishioners they can scare into believing.
If you decide that the church is way of on their views about your sexuality, then soon you may question why to be a member at all.
If sex feels good, and doesn't hurt anyone, why are they telling me it's a sin?
Hey, while I'm busy thinking:
- Why does an almighty god, need to have his Son murdered for our "sins" to be forgiven. God can just do whatever it wants, however it wants.
- Why am I giving money to a religion that killed people for believing the earth went round the sun, and even now is stopping research into stem cells which might better our lives here on earth - the only life we have...
Ah - f*ck this religion crap - I'm flushing the bible at http://flushaholybook.com

i don't see how it could be in girls. a sin by definiton is something you do against God. yes the Bible says better to put your sperm in a hooker than to let it run down the gutter. but when He said to reproduce I think we surprised even him. Lets face it, we're overpopulated. I had heard catholics couldn't even make love unless they wanted a kid. then why did He make it so much fun? I think [and take it for what you think its worth] if God were to do it all over he would say enough is enough. Quit already. Since we have to make that decision ourselves we have to do what is right for ourselves. My point is if you're going to use birth control anyhow [a sin against God} what would be the differance if we just did ourselves? If I can't look at a cute butt - don't covet your neighbors wife- I'm headed for hell anyhow. So after all this dribble understand that doing yourself is a sin cause the Bible says so and no other way to say it. But i think it is a tiny little sin-like a fib that doesn,t hurt anyone. Trust me there are lots worse things to sin at!

Onan (אוֹנָן "Strong", Standard Hebrew Onan, Tiberian Hebrew ʾÔnān) is a person described in the book of Genesis in the Bible. His name is the origin for the sexual term "onanism", meaning masturbation.
Onan was the second son of Judah. After his older brother Er died, Onan was required by the tradition of " Levirate " marriage to marry Er's widow Tamar. According to Genesis 38:7-9, when he had sexual intercourse with Tamar he "spilt his seed upon the ground" because the resulting child would be considered his late brother's, not his. In response to this transgression, God killed Onan.
So here, the sin was not ' masturbation ' per se but the failure to obey God. Jewish interpretation is that Onan was deserving of the death penalty solely because he sinned by spilling his seed.
Because of its Divine institution for the propagation of man, the seed is not to be vainly ejaculated, nor is it to be damaged, nor is it to be wasted.
More evidence against interpretation of Onan's sin as masturbation is contained in Leviticus 15, which discusses the ritual impurity resulting from heterosexual intercourse (verse 18) separately from that resulting from ejaculation (verses 16-17), implying that masturbation is not a capital offense.
So Onan's sin was not masturbation but disobeying Gods will and spilling his seed wastefully.
Whoever said masturbation is a sin has interpreted this idea of the Bible wrongly.

It is not a sin.
Those who think it is a sin are misinterpreting Genesis 38:7-9.
God told Onan to have sex with Tamar. Instead he "spilt his seed upon the ground" (masturbated) because the resulting child would be considered his late brother's, not his.
In response to this transgression, God killed Onan.
God was punishing Onan for disobedience not masturbating.

The truth is it's not. Early in civilization strength came from population. Increasing the size of one's tribe helped to fend off invasion. Who's going to attack a group that out numbers them ten to one? Therefore, writers of early religious books made masturbation a sin in hopes of increasing the pregnancy rate and thereby the population.

masturbation is a sin because it is a non-productive sexual activity. in judaism and christianity (and probably islam, too, not sure), sexuality is about procreation, not fun. on a deeper level, whenever you squirt out semen into your duvet masturbating, you are killing potential. each of the sperms you are wiping off yourself could have developed into a child had they had they chance to ever swim up a woman's cervix and encounter an egg. this child could be the one destined to find a cure for aids, achieve world peace etc. by wanking, you are destroying this possiblity. so - sin is a waste of potential, and with each ejaculation achieved by masturbation you are wasting a potential 100 million babies. ;-) i don't believe in this, btw, but that's how the idea works.

Masturbation makes us begin to live according to the dictates of the flesh and to become slaves to the "misdeeds of the body." Scripture warns us about this kind of activity, "For if you live according to the flesh (by giving in to its desires), you will die" and tells us how to stop, "but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live" (Romans 8:13).
This is what I was able to find about it. I've never questioned it before, because I am married and don't feel the need to masterbate.

As one of the Christian Faith I can tell you that The Bible dose not specificaly mention masturbation. And if you are not of any particular "faith" then you have no restrictions upon you not to choke the chicken all you want....
you can not ask any one of any faith to give you a "belief" concerning any allowed of forbidden practices within their "faith" unless you alow them to use the foundation of that "faith" your question can not be answered by any one of faith given the restrictions you put on answers...
While masturbation is not mentioned in The Christian Bible, lust is. and that is a sin. so if it can be done without lusting then it is ok.... for females they are not to use artificial devices...
from a mortal pov there are two kinds of liers... them that say they never, and them that say they quit.

Masturbation in itself is not a sin. However, lust is. Thinking or looking at a girl in a lustful manner alone is sin.
