If you are new the the iPod, then you probably have put the 'Hold' key to the lock position. the keys don't work then. Be sure the little slider is not to the red position. Then just press the play/pause for a few seconds and it will turn off.
;-D Be sure to use the latest versions of iTunes and update the software on the iPod if iTunes says to update.

No, you pause the player and after a minute of not being used it'll turn off on its own. It's like an auto-off feature. Be sure to put the Hold button on after it turns off, so that it won't get turned on accidentally because that'll drain your battery power.
P.S. You would've been way better off with a Creative Zen Vision.

yeah, u have to hold that button down like for three seconds and it will shut off...but try reseting it...switch the lock on then off then, then push the center button and menu at the same time for a few seconds and it should reset (its either the menu or pause/play w/ the center button)...if it still doesnt work then id say contact the company!

If this continues, download the new iPod updater and restore your iPod to factory settings. This might not be neccisary, but if it continues, and you want a way to surely fix it, restore it to factory settings. But if you do this, all of your songs will be wiped out, so you'll have to re-upload them.

You need to get your Ipod out of sade mode. or other solution is there is somewhere in your menu , you can set your start menu. try taking "Sleep" to your menu. it might work. (sorry about poor language. )
