Well, in your case, I guess you can say at least you tried. Prayer to God is suppose to be to ask him for forgiveness and for blessings in your life. It gives you inner peace at times. You should be able to tell him all your problems and worries and hand your burdens to him, having faith that he will give you the help and knowledge the you need to come your way in all the aspects of your life. He wants you to talk to him even though he already knows what you are thinking and needing. He asks that we do that. He does answer prayers, even when we don't realize it, at the right time. Sometimes God puts you in the right place at the right time or sends someone your way. You and the person in your life may not even realize that the meeting, for instance, was from God. But you later realize it was a good thing or a blessing. Praying keeps you close to God and gives you the reassurance of knowing that you are doing the best you can and know that God hears you and decides what is best for you. If you keep an open mind, you may be able to clearly see what God has done in your life thus far and then see what he has done for you currently. Just think back and see when you needed help. Did God give you any support when you asked? I say a short prayer on my way to work every day and God seems to take care of me--to atleast help me get through the day. I know that I have to do my part of living, but with him by my side, it makes me feel so much more at ease. I know that I am not alone.

First, you have to understand what prayer is. Prayer is the building of a relationship between you and God. It is not a source of magical power. God is not a grandfatherly type sitting in Heaven doling out gifts to those who ask. When you pray, the attitude should be that of thankfulness and wishing for that which is in accordance with God's will.
By the way, Christians believe that God answers ALL prayers. It is just that sometimes the answer is "no" or "not yet". We don't always see the reason for one answer over another, but we have faith that God (being all-knowing) knows what is really best for us during our short stay on this earth.

NO, GOD does not answer prayers, and the so called answers are just our own delusions.
Let me put it this way, God, a perfect being, has created all in perfection. So all the answers to all the possible prayers were given at the very moment of creation.
All we have to do is to believe in God and just look around for the answers to our prayers, they have always existed in front of our eyes from the very moment of creation.
The only possible prayer really is that of adoration to our creator and that is all.
Thus adore your God above all things and love the entire creation because it is perfect and there is nothing else that is needed.

Why the hell are you asking such a stupid question? If you know he's gonna say "no" then what's the point of praying to Him? You'd only ask a question you don't know the answer to. And if you don't know the answer then he can say yes, no or be patient. the benefit of prayer is getting a divine response back... No, you don't have to hear an actual voice floating in your head. What you do listen to is what you know he's leading you to.

Does your faith depend upon your prayers being answered? Does God not exist simply because you don't always get what you want (a God-like quality; but God is God and you are not).
Matthew 17:
14When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before him. 15"Lord, have mercy on my son," he said. "He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. 16I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him."
17"O unbelieving and perverse generation," Jesus replied, "how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me." 18Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed from that moment.
19Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, "Why couldn't we drive it out?"
20He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."[a]
Faith means more than just "believing real hard" or "wanting very much." Faith is much more than that. Corenthians describes it to some extent:
1 Corenthians 13:
1If I speak in the tongues[a] of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames,[b] but have not love, I gain nothing.

I was diagnosed with an extremely painful nerve disorder about three years ago. Because of the medicine and the pain, I missed a lot of work and therefore, couldn't pay the mortgage on my home. I prayed over and over for God to help me keep my home and take away the painful nerve disorder. I lost my home and felt deserted by God. I immediately found a new home (to rent) close to my family. The pain from the nerve disorder slowly went away. My old home, next to the railroad tracks, made the nerve disorder worse (the noise level). God answered one of my prayers and answered another "no". I'm happy He did.

God answers prayer in three ways, yes ,no , wait. Yes he will answer the way we want, no he does not want you to have it & wait he will give it to you in his time not yours.God gave in to the Jews and gave them a king, Saul and we all know how bad that turned out. Sometimes God will give you what you think you need just to show you how wrong you were, So be very careful what you pray for, you may get it and wish you had not.

It's not the answer to the prayer that is what's important, it is that you are connecting to and speaking to God personally. Many great things are done to you and others through prayer. Not always what you ASK for is done, but something even better is done.
Imagine a child who says"Daddy, pleeeeease give me a candy bar every day!! I want one!!" If you are caring about you child, you will not answer his request for what he asks. And in asking this, he may give you an opportunity to tell him some knowledge about candy bars not being good for him all the time.
So it is with God.

God knows what's best for us. Sometimes the best answer to our prayers is a no. Also, He will not do anything that's against His will. For example, you pray that the bank robbery you're about to commit goes smoothly. God will not help you even though you prayed.

This is an excellent question! I guess prayer is supposed to make you feel good in a spiritual way. Also, if i'm not mistaken, you're not supposed to pray and ASK for things......you're supposed to pray and thank the good Lord. :)
