In the Old Testament, they're called the chosen people. It's that simple.
jaystin4g63, Jesus has nothing to do with it. The Old Testament was written millenia before Jesus was born.

If you're going to accept that they are the chosen ones, then you must have accepted that the Bible is a source of authority. If you don't believe that, then ask yourself who told you the Jews are chosen, and why you believed them.
Moreover, if you believe what's written in the Bible, you'll find that in the New Testament, God's promises and his favor is extended to all people, so now all the Jews have is seniority.

God made them the chosen people in the book of Exodus, and continued it all thru the bible. Even the book of Revelation speaks of the 12 tribes. Many christians like to pretend that becoming christian makes them the chosen ones, but it doesn't work like that. God made a promise to the Jews, and He keeps His promises. He was angry with them, they've been punished for ages, but He will forgive them, the bible tells us that much. That doesn't mean christians won't have a special place in heaven, we will, but the 12 tribes have a special place all laid out too.

I am Jewish. I'll tell you. It might sound about boasting but you asked. Abraham, the Jewish forefather was the first one to recognize as one and no other. That's where it's started. We've had the religion since then. Move forward 400 years. Jews meet at Mount Sinai to officially receive bible. (The forefathers had already kept the commandments.) God had gone through all the other nations asking if they wanted the Bible. All the other nations had inquired what it included and declined. When we were offered (not to be up myself) we accepted and then understood what it included. Till this day, the religion goes strong. The Bible was "written" by God but Moses wrote it down in Hebrew.

The Israelites, as a nation, were Gods chosen people because of a promise made to Abraham of old for his faithfulness.
The Israelites lost that privilege at the time of Jesus.
Over the centuries between Abraham and Jesus the Israelites kept going away from God and following other gods.
Jesus ministry was to the Jews, but they rejected him, and God rejected them as a nation and adopted a new nation one that would include people from all nations, a spiritual Israel.

I don't know why or how Jews were chosen but we are still around while other religions have passed on. Anybody worshipping Zeus or Apollo? The various pagen religions of the western world have disappeared since the spread of Christianity and Islam, but Judaism is still around. We must be doing something right.

No mortal knows why God decided to start The Nation of Israel... one day those who get to heaven may find out.
But it is God's business and if he wants us to know we will know.
btw... the Jews did not write the Bible. The Scribes who recorded it were directly inspired by God to write what he wanted recorded... Those original texts were lost long ago. The Bible, as it is known today is made up of copies of copies oftranslations of copies of fragments of texts. There is no inerrant text of The Bible existing today. In any language.

In the old testament they are given that name ,BUT that was twothousand or so yrs ago ,also the Jews then were very different from the ones of today, as in Israel 21st century, where they are mostly European Jewry, so God must of meant the people of that time period , as for today the chosen is all of us!

This is a debated source my parents debate it all the time (dad jewish; mom -christian). It is often said that Jews are the chossen ones because they started all religions. It was the first monothistic ( one god) religion in which Chrictanity and Islam branched out of I belive. If i'm wrong pls forgive. The saying is that once all of god's chossen people go and live in Isreal then the messiah will come.

The jews we're chosen because of an act of obedience and faith by Abraham (actually at the time, his name was Abram). God promised Abraham and Sarai, his wife, a child. They both were very advanced in years and long past the time of children. In other words, they would have made excellent great grandparents. After conceiving and birth of Issac, God told or commanded Moses to take his son, his ONE AND ONLY son and offer him as a sacrifice to Himself. To make a long story short, Abram did as God commanded and just as the dagger or knife or sharp stone was on the down swing God stopped Him. See, Abram knew that even though God promised him a son, Issac was still Gods creation. Issac even asked where the ram for the sacrifice was and Abram told his son that the Lord would provide HImself the sacrifice. God had never intended Issac to die as a sacrifice but Abrams obedience pleased God. By Abrams act of obedience his name was changed to Abraham (father of many nations) and Sarai to Sarah, you can look that one up to see why. God established a covenant (a list of promises based on adherence to the rules of the covenant). Jacob came from this family line and his named was changed to Israel. Again, you can go yourself and look up these things if you truly want to know. Whats important is knowing what God did. Abram said that God would provide Himself the sacrifice and God did provide Himself...Jesus Christ, Gods one and only Son as the one time for all time sacrifice for all who would believe and follow after Him. The Jews are Gods' chosen because of the covenant, God doesn't break a promise. But Jesus proclaimed the the gospel of repentance and forgiveness to the Gentiles (anyone who isn't a Jew) as well as the Jews, and it was accounted to them as righteousness through faith. That means that we, who have accepted the free gift of grace, are now in right standing before God. Long answer, sorry, but then again, you asked : )
