My Devon is just about everything described above. He's let himself go over the years and is a bit plump for a Devon.

He's definitely one to shed, so definitely not (by my personal experience) for those who dislike pet hair. Despite this, he's so soft to the touch, and the curly coat definitely gets people's attention. I find that he needs a bath about once every two months...maybe he's just gotten a little to rotund to reach all the necessary spots :)
He has the sweetest temperament...not at all aloof or aggressive. And yes...he gets into EVERYTHING. Well, he used to...at 11, he's not getting into as much (our Sphynx kitten has taken over that duty).

Bottom line...I'd have another Devon without hesitation.

I had a Devon when I was a little girl. It was 1 of the first cats I ever owned. He was the sweetest, craziest cat I have ever had (trust me thats many). He LOVED to jump up to the highest points in the house, like our cabinets directly under the ceiling. He would get up there & chatter away like he was in the spot light.

My bengal that I have now does this, but my devon did it almost on an hourly basis. We lived in the country at the time, & he got along great with everyone but the geese.

He had such a remarkable personality that I find a hard time describing. You could see a very high intelligence behind his eyes & quite the quirky personality. He was 18 years old before we had to put him to sleep. Never had any health issues until he was very old (although he hated the vet like nobody's business).

You may want to check a national database like petfinder.com (or others) to see if any Devon's are up for adoption.

Good luck!

I am a Devon Rex breeder. Their temperments are hard to describe..but they often get called pixies, clown, spider-monkies. You will swear they have hands....and they love heights. They are affecionate and quite people oriented, get along with other animals. I could go on forever but outside of their charming appearance.....their personality outshines everything else. They DO shed, no matter what anyone tells you, but their hair is very short and it is easy to brush off, more like rabbit or dog hair it doesn't get caught in material or float through the air. You don't see hairpiles on coaches and next to the Sphinx I'd say they are easiest in maintenence. No combing or brushing. A daily grooming could consist of a damp washcloth rubbed down their backs to make their curls more resilient....but that's vanity, they don't really need anything. Since they have huge ears..you'll have to clean them out occasionally with a Q-tip. Vet visits are the same as with any other cat. If you are interested in a Devon, I'd reccommend going to http://www.devonrex.com/ You will find more about the breed, and reputable breeders in your neck of the woods. Good Luck...Devons are my favorite and I have worked with MANY breeds through the years.
