We got our sun conure in May - adopted her. She was in a basement with a barking dog for a long time. Then she went to another home and the lady could not care for her or handle the screaming of the bird. So, my boyfriend brought her home one day and I've been taking care of her and working on taming her so that she can be held and petted with out any difficulty. She is doing really good. But now the economy is so bad up here in south east Michigan - we just descided to do over the road team semi driving for a living (can't find anything else that pays as good) - and we will be gone for weeks at a time and I will no longer be home enough to care for her. Does anyone have any good suggestions? I wish I could just leave her with someone who will take really good care of her - but I already asked everyone I know...I feel really bad for her - she has been sent from home to home enough already! I really love her and want the best for her.

Yes, I am sure she is female. She regurgitates food - bobs her head up and down, I think she thinks I am her baby bird and she should feed me! She looks like a girl too. She has a small frame. Plus, we saw a reciept for her and it said she was a female. - I don't know yet where we will be trucking to.

We won't be allowed to take any kind of animals with us - since we will be driving a company semi and there are rules against it. If we get our own semi one day we may bring a pet.

Em is right, the fumes from the semi could kill the bird - and as a new driver for a new company I won't be breaking rules!

I know it's unrealistic to ask you to consider taking her in a semi. The fumes from gas and weigh stations could even be lethal to her.

Have you checked whether there are any parrot rescues near you? A parrot rescue will make anybody who wants to adopt your baby prove that they're a good home, and they check on the bird periodically for a while after adoption. Most of them make prospective owners take classes on parrot rearing. They'll keep your birdie as long as it takes to adopt out, unlike an animal shelter, so even if it's far away, I'd say it's worth the drive.

No matter the sex, a bird in love feeds their lover. It's a birdie box of chocolates.

Yep!
Take her with.
If you want to do something bad enough you will figure out a way to do it.
After all.......you did make an obligation to her to take care of her for the rest of her days.
She will be easier than a 2 yr. old for sure. But just as love and time consuming as a 4 yr. old.
Hey it's your call...
But....if you weren't that dedicated into this bird....why did you get her? (I'm sorry, I'm just being tough on you)...but you need it.
PLEASE....at least try to take her with you.
And if it doesn't work out to where you are not being able to give her all the attention that she needs....then you could think about re-homing her.
Hey now, in a semi, you will have lots-o-time for what she needs.....;o)
Give it a go...
You all take care of yourselves around the country..and your birdie too?????

I would suggest, family or friends, because then when you come back, you can still see her, and you could get her back one day. You'll never get her back if you give her to someone you don't know, unless there was an agreement between the two of you.
There are some really nice people on Ya-hoo!!!!!
I hope they can help you, but if not
I found an add in the paper, for someone looking for a parrot, I can give you number.

That is sad that the little birdie is being passed around so much. If you are going to be trucking near North West Arkansas I would be happy to take it off your hands. I have a sun which I am sure is a male. You seem to think yours is female? is that just a wild guess?

awww that is sad take her with. my bird loves 2 roadtrip it. I know what u mean about a sitter i want 2 go in the military but i need a good sitter while i am in bootcamp and somebody who can handle him. If you lived closer i would take of of her. I live in wisconsin. This is the reason i believe birds should not be pets cuz sooner or later the owner cant take care of them etc.....

I have 2 love birds already ..someone moved out of a house and left them there and I "adopted" them ..
no one that comes over likes them cause they are so noisy ... lol, I love it ..and I never cover their cage..I treat them like they are my kids and I would never cover my kids' "cage" so I won't theirs
