German Shepherd Dog, hands down. I've had them since childhood.

A bloodhound may track better, A doberman may have slightly better vision, A greyhound can out run it...

But none can put it all together in one breed like the venerated German Shepherd Dog. I have protection trained Shepherds who will lick the face of my toddler neice, or tear the throat out of a criminal on command.

Their intelligence is not to be rivaled in the dog world and you will see them in bomb work, search and rescue, the military, drug sniffers, border patrol etc.

Sure you will see a few other breeds in there - but mostly because breed devotee's want to strut their stuff too, not because they are particularly better than the German Shepherd Dog at it.

In the pet world, I grew up with them as well. No better friend or protector to a young kid.

There is a reason they are in every professional field, even seeing eye and therapy dogs. It points out their incredible versatility. You will not find any other breed as all around capable. Take a stroll by any canine police unit or military base. See what breed takes up 75%-100% of their space.

The German Shepherd Dog.

I love all breeds of dogs, but if I had to narrow it down to a couple they would be an american eskimo(breed I have), a golden retriever(they are so smart and loyal), and a beagle because they are just the cutest!
