An illegal alien gets caught on our border with a van containing 800lbs of pot. There was a scuffle with an agent, another comes up as he was running away and the alien got shot in the a**. He calls a relative in Colorado who gets in contact with a D.A. that gives the illegal alien immunity to come back and testify against the 2 agents. They are accused of violating his civil rights because he was on our side of the border, not immediately reporting a discharged weapon, they aren't allowed to protect our borders and give chase to aliens. I think at the most they should have been put on temporary leave. Now they got convicted in a hurried trial and now; both are father's of 3 small children, might get 10-20 years in jail...FOR PROTECTING US FROM AN ILLEGAL ALIEN THAT HAD ILLEGAL DRUGS ON OUR SIDE OF THE BORDER? I don't think this is justice...what do you think?

RedDesolate:I'm not sure if you're being serious or not. If you're not, then my son is half mexican...so that has nothing to do with it. If you are serious...I live in southern California..San Fernando Valley to be exact.. and am dealing with this in a very real way, not some person from a state spewing opinions on something which I know nothing about. Unless you know whom you are talking to...you should keep opinions like that to yourself.

Having worked in the field for years, I am aware that there are often times violations of the law which are not prosecuted for reasons in the very interest of justice.
(for example, a person who steals food to feed his family or another who gives his 16 year old son a black eye in discipline to keep him from joining a gang committed a crime, but in the interest of justice it would not be filed - there are ways to deal with it short of filing criminal charges. There are MANY other examples.)
I have to say then that I was SHOCKED when I first heard this story a month ago. How on earth is justice served by crucifying people trying to do their job. I am not saying they did not commit a crime, BUT when all factors are considered, somehow trying to stop smugglers (of any kind) from crossing our borders in a post 9-11 world and only using the force that was used after a struggle cannot in any rational world warrant criminal charges.
They could have been fired, fined administratively or any one of a number of options were there short of charges which carry a minimum of 10 years in prison.
I am sad to say for the second time in my life I am VERY disappointed that justice did not happen for law enforcement in the Federal "Justice" system. Saying they got the shaft doesn't even begin to describe it.
