It doesn't matter if he has eaten already or not; to the food dish he goes. He also runs to the bath tub when I head towards the washroom - every time!!

Your cat knows you well enough he is actually trying to anticipate yur next move and beat you there. Dogs are famous for this. Some cats eventually get close enough to their humans to develop this type of bond. Some people call them "heart kitties". Basically this cat loves loves you, wants to be close to you, wants to challenge you, and wants to race you. It's play behaviour and a good sign.

My cats do the same thing. They just want to be near you. Plus cats love to munch, they know the kitchen. My cats are next to me no matter what room it is. If I am in the bath so are they, if I am in the mirror changing or doing my make-up so are they right next to me sprawled out on the floor.

My cats act the same way. Despite the fact that they are well fed they act like they haven't eaten in weeks whenever I head to the kitchen.

Mine do the same! Especially the younger one, he hops onto the little scratching post (has a shelf) in the kitchen and will paw at me until he gets a treat. It's so cute!

he's being hopeful... thinks he'll have something to eat... one of cats do that all the time - but then, he's only a ear old... the 8 year old is wiser now
