Start with something small, such as the pleasure you take in being yourself. You never start with something big because all it does is frustrate you. Start with something tiny. Go sit down so I can talk with you a minute. Like that. Put your feet up. Let go. Listen to what I am telling you. You have to get back to square one, here. When you feel all wound up with nowhere to go, you have to go sit down and stop the world. All the potential in the world is yours already. You were born that way. You are also probably artistically gifted and I know you love music. So relax. If you do this right, you may have to sit for a few minutes before you will start to feel what you're doing wrong. The mistake is to try to design an overlay of thought on top of what you already have inside you. The easier way is to just sit there with your feet up and simply relax. Do you know what will happen (if you don't fall asleep)? Inspiration. Something will come to you out of the blue. Now, you've used this method before but you probably haven't done it deliberately like this. Have you got your feet up yet? Gotta completely relax for it to work. When you get your idea out of nowhere, either act on it immediately or write it down. If you already keep a journal (you probably actually did when you were younger), you're way ahead of the game. This is all about remembering what you really enjoy doing. It has to be a little bit like playing. I used to go and sit down at the piano and just play something. Nobody in the house. It was "my music." And you branch out from there. If you want real motivation to do something, go to your room for a minute and go sit on the bed and just relax your entire body, especially your arms and shoulders and look around your room as if you had never been in it before. What you will slowly start seeing is all the stuff you need to change. Those very changes will inspire you even further. A very simple way to jump-start yourself is to start finding stuff you're through with, or simply have outgrown. Put it in boxes or bags and find a charitable organization and donate it to bring it to life again. Storage. Find where you store stuff and go revisit it like I did this afternoon. I revisited my entire vinyl record library. What happened was I wound up listening to and enjoying tons of great old tunes. All of the getting-going you're looking for starts and ends inside yourself. Why? Because it is yours. If you still have all those journals you wrote from before, go find them and open them up. I hope some of what I have written speaks to you and encourages to find brand new things to look into. Don't get too serious about all this and you'll find your new direction and motivation very quickly, you may be sure of it, because it's right inside you waiting to be summoned by focusing on it. Let it tell itself to you. I hope what I have told you here will encourage you to rediscover and reinvent yourself starting this evening. Sent to you with good energies from Chris in South Portland, Maine, U.S.A. (I am 63 years old.)

You may have a long term goal but you have to be realistic and set short targets to get there to release your potential. Giving yourself an asskick does not always work...just go bit by bit and you will eventually get there.
I use to be over ambitious and then end up scratching my butt - now I take plans a bit at a time and can get realistic targets settled.

You answered your own Question! Kick your but's and get going. In our daily battles, procrastination is the enemy. What is required is action---even when we are afraid. I quit smoking 21 days ago and started excercising. I'm having the same problem. It is hard for me to get motivated to do my two excercise tapes Kathy Smith and Billy Blanks. BUT once I get started I'm good. So get started. Make out a list of things you want to do and do one at a time. Start at the top of the list and work your way down. Good luck! You can do it! Hugs! Von!

Write down your goal (what you want to do)
Write down what has to happen for you to get there
Write down the problems that are stopping you - the "buts"
Write down what has to happen to eliminate the "buts".
Then, picking the "but" that is easiest to eliminate, start doing/reading/researching/talking to people about how to eliminate it (and maybe some of the others).
In otherwords, make a plan.
Best of wishes to you.

Well..If you haven't finished school - do that first or get a GED.
It just takes a little motivation. Sometimes you cant reach the Big dreams until you have accomplished the small ones first.

its like surfing, you wait for the right wave to come along and ride it. That is, live for the moment and wait for the right opportunity. if you want it enough it'll come, and when it does you wont need much motivation to grab the bull by the horns. Sorry about the cheesy cliches

Just do it or you could always go to a friend and seek support from them and then the two of you could do something together. It works much better when you have someone there to go with.

Do whatever you want to accomplish in sections. Don't look to reach your potential in one leap. Take smaller steps, keep focused and aim for your prize. You might get to it slower, but you will be so psyched when you reach what you wish to do!! Good luck!!

The only way to get things started is to just do it. I feel that way myself sometimes, but I'm so apathetic I just say "screw it" and continue doing everything half-assed.
