My son will be turning 16 in October. I was going to put him in a 200 Ford Ranger 2 wheel drive regular cab. I haven't talked to my insurance agent yet but was just wondering what kind of premiums should I be looking at to add him to our policy on the Ranger? Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure how much more boys are, but when we added our first daughter, our premium went up about 50%

The insurance is going to be extremely high. I worked @ an insurance company and there are things that will save you some $, for example the good student discount can save up to 20% alarms, lo jack, garage etc. It is cheaper to have him on YOUR insurance than it is for him to be on his own. Why? because he benefits from your good driver discount and years of you being insured. So even if the premium is 2000 a year, without you it would be higher, trust me.

If you add him at age 16 as secondary driver it will cost about 68 dollars a month for liability only
If he tries to get insurance at age 18 and he has not been on insurance from age 16 to 18 it will cost 2400 every six months because he is hi risk.

hmmmm...a 16 year old boy with a truck.....
well, the better his grades in school, and the fact, if he did, take drivers ed, will keep your premiums from going thru the roof, but oooh, i feel for you, the insurance is going to be high. i remember my dad having 2 teenage boys on his policy, he jokingly said he would have to take out a second mortgage just to pay the insurance, he didnt really have to, but close.

When my brother started driving it did double, but really it wasn't horrible and I start in a few months. It's really not as bad as people make it out to be.
