Absinthe is not legal in the US. But on the bright side, it's not too hard to concoct. Start with Pernod, which is pretty much absinthe without the wormwood. Next, get wormwood. You may be able to purchase this at a New Age or occult shop. Grind about an ounce into powder and put into a 750 of Pernod. Wait a week, and strain. Traditionally served by drizzling over a sugar cube into chilled water, because wormwood is bitter as all get out.and not even Pernod can mask it. Now, the disclaimer. Absinthe is banned because it can potentially cause kidney damage if consumed in large quantities. Yes, it's mildly hallucinogenic, but don't think more is better. 2-3 ounces of the above is about the max you want to consume at a time. DO NOT get s**tfaced on this stuff, you can do yourself some serious and permanent damage. As they say, enjoy responsibly.

Available in Mexican liquor stores; made in the Czech Republic. 25USD for a small bottle. Can get an Absinth (no e) cocktail in Tijuana for 8USD. Don't expect visions or madness, no wormwood. Border Nazis will take it away from you if you try to bring it back.

Yes, it was banned from sale in the US in 1912. But I have seen websites where it is for sale. Check out www.ask.com for your answers. It's a great site for just about anything.

Yes, but vermouth is not. Vermouth is also made w/ wormwood, and could have the same hallucinogenic properties.
