I have taken photos on my digital camera in high resolution, but it seems when i have transferred them onto my computer, the program that is on it has made them too small (in KB) for them to be printed at my local photo centre. They say that they can't be printed, but i was wondering if there was any way i could re-increase them to their original size, as I originally deleted them form the original memory card after transferring them onto my computer and now I only have a copy of them on disk and on the computer. Is there a program i can buy or is there anything I can do.

There are programs that can retrieve the old photos from the memory card, even after they were deleted and pictures were saved over them. There are limits, of course, but you might buy/borrow the software and see what it will find on your memory card.

Good luck!

I'm not sure if there is much you can do with the photos you have already uploaded to your PC. You cannot re-increase your photos and expect them to be of a good quality.
Another thing is the program you are using on the PC to upload your photos to (whatever it is?). I cannot understand why the files would change (usually that only happens when you edit them and choose to re-size before saving).
Perhaps you have to reconfigure it in some way if it is automatically compressing them (you should always keep an original size copy of your photo and if you want a smaller file then you need to COPY it and then re-size it)...or find a different program (you don't have to use the program that came with your camera, which quite often are not very good).
If you have Windows XP...then you should be able to upload your photos quite easily.
When you plug your camera into the PC via USB or use a card reader, Windows automatically asks what you want to do...it asks "if you want to copy pictures into a folder on your computer using Microsoft Scanner and Photo Wizard"...and the photos are put in whatever folder and the files are the exact same files from the camera.
Try that...or get another program and educate yourself on how it works...and also find out what the minimum size files you need to print the size photos you require.
I use photo editor programs such as Paintshop Pro 9 or X and also Adobe Photoshop CS2...but Adobe Elements 4.0 would be an easier option.
Most software programs have books available and there are tons of online tutorials available...you just need to look.
Good luck.

First reduce the number. The biggest problem with digital photography is the enormous mass of 2nd and 3rd rate photos we all keep. I guarantee that you will NEVER look at 2000 photos of your baby. No matter how cute! SO! You need to select the "A" rated photos. Go through them on your PC. You will find that some of them you will just skip over but on some you will stop and look and smile. Keep the second kind and earmark them for printing. Then go thorough the "rejects" again just to be sure you didn't miss any. Then go through your A list and weed out those that are just repeats. Be brutal! Pick 50 (100 MAXIMUM) that represent key moments and show your baby's development. They are the ones to print and put in an album.

If the pictures were resized and contain insufficient resolution, there's little you can do to repair them. There is a trick however, where you add dummy-resolution to reduce pixelation in the prints. Depending on the situation, that might make for acceptable results. You didn't mention how large the images are now (either in pixels or in kb) or how big you wanted the prints, so I can't say.
By the way, I'd be amazed if your computer resized everything automatically during the transfer! If that was the case, check the settings immediately, or just stop using that program and transfer future images with a card reader.

your computer probably compresses it and uses a "lossy" kind of format, lossy - its if a picture is turned smaller but the pixel information is changed so once its made smaller its quality changes, digital camera uses JPG format which is lossy, anyways you need a to convert it to a "lossless" kind of format so when ever u compress it, the pixel information isnt changed
